In much the same way as trees, the quality and depth of our roots have significant impact on our lives, and yet because they’re unseen it’s easy to overlook them. Sometimes the following can happen:
A tree can outgrow the pot it was planted in. Its roots are bound and growing round in circles. Sometimes our conception of God can act as a pot, limiting our growth and keeping us from deepening our roots in him.
Tree roots may reach for refreshment from a stagnant ephemeral pond that dries up, instead of deep pure ground water.
The exterior appearance of our roots and even our bark may look very different.
Yet aren’t all of our cores very much the same?
These are a few of the reflections that were shared from the Rooted Retreat here at the MARK Centre this past weekend. 13 of us gathered to listen, receive, rest, and grow. We looked at our own roots and took time to sink deeper into God's love. It was a truly wonderful time.
May you also consider what you grounded in. Where are you drawing nourishment and nutrients from?
And may you also grasp the depths of Christ’s love that can fill you with God’s goodness as we stand together rooted, and established with all God’s people (Ephesians 3 paraphrased).
