Our Teacher Champion Series features educators passionate about agriculture and food education.

June's Teacher Champion profile spotlighted Andrea Salzbrenner, a teacher at David Thompson Secondary School in Invermere.

Andrea's favourite resources are Farm Explorer BC and Grow BC.
In Andrea's words""We love the Farm & Food Maps resources! Farm Explorer BC is such a fantastic guide to touring local farms, and Grow BC is full of fascinating insights on BC commodities, oysters being a particular favourite. Being in the East Kootenays, we feel so lucky to experience products like BC oysters firsthand. It’s truly special. When they arrive, the excitement from our Culinary students and even others across the school is palpable. Every delivery turns into a hands-on, immersive learning experience, connecting our students to local farmers and the incredible flavours of BC.”

Proud to have represented our flagship program FRESH for KIDS at the national Nourishing Futures School Food Forum in Montreal!
Last week, our Executive Director Cheryl Johnson joined over 500 school food leaders, educators, researchers, and Indigenous knowledge holders from across Canada to discuss the future of school food systems. More than 80 participants attended from BC, including BCAITC's own Chef Ambassador, Trevor Randle!

Held on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation (Tiohtià:ke / Montreal), the forum centred on collaboration, food sovereignty, and creating inclusive, culturally grounded school food environments for all students.

Grateful for the learning and connection, and excited to bring these insights back to British Columbia. 💚
