🌿 Volunteer Appreciation Post: Celebrating Daryl Morgan! 🌿

Today, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Daryl Morgan, a remarkable community champion who has played a pivotal role in establishing The Garden at Chelsea Gardens! 🌼 Under Daryl's leadership, dedicated volunteers came together over two weekends in April 2024 to set up garden boxes, fill them with soil, and kickstart the planting process, creating a vibrant urban garden within the apartment complex.

Daryl's passion for gardening and community spirit is truly inspiring. Thanks to her guidance and the hard work of five enthusiastic volunteers, residents now have a beautiful space to engage with nature, cultivate fresh produce, and connect with their neighbors. This initiative not only beautifies the community but also fosters collaboration and connection among residents, providing seniors with a meaningful opportunity to participate in gardening activities.

As we look forward to the bountiful harvest from the Chelsea Community Garden, we are grateful for Daryl’s tireless efforts in bringing this project to life. The garden is thriving with a variety of vegetables, and plans for expanding our fruit selection are underway, ensuring that our community enjoys the fruits of their labor for years to come.

Thank you, Daryl, for your dedication and hard work! Your efforts are making a lasting positive impact on our community, and we are excited to see the continued growth of The Garden at Chelsea Gardens! 🌱💚

🌟 Volunteer Appreciation Post: Celebrating Harpal Toor! 🌟

Today, we shine a light on the incredible work of Harpal Toor, a dedicated community champion making a significant impact in Abbotsford! United Way is proud to support her initiatives that uplift and empower our community. Here are three remarkable projects Harpal has led:

1) Energy Conservation Workshop
On May 18, 2023, Harpal organized an informative workshop at the Sikh temple aimed at new immigrants, focusing on energy and water conservation. Over 25 women gathered to learn invaluable methods for optimizing their resource use. Under Harpal’s guidance, participants explored innovative techniques for conserving water and adopting sustainable energy practices. Through engaging discussions and interactive activities, attendees gained practical knowledge to make eco-conscious choices in their daily lives, fostering camaraderie and inspiring collective action within the community.

2) Youth Needlecraft Workshop
Harpal also spearheaded a Youth Needlecraft Workshop at Mill Lake Park on July 16, bringing together youth aged 7 to 17 for an afternoon filled with creativity and learning. This engaging event provided a unique opportunity for young participants to connect with peers while honing their sewing skills. Guided by Harpal, the youth learned basic hand sewing and cross-stitching techniques, leaving with their completed projects and sewing kits. The workshop was not only educational but also a fantastic way for participants to make new friends in a supportive environment, showcasing Harpal's ability to foster connection through creative endeavors.

3) Monthly Cultural Gatherings for Seniors
Harpal has been instrumental in organizing monthly cultural gatherings for South Asian seniors, creating safe and welcoming spaces for women to connect and engage. These events have attracted a growing number of participants, allowing newcomers to introduce themselves and forge blossoming connections. Harpal’s efforts to celebrate cultural heritage while fostering friendships have made a profound impact on the lives of many seniors, providing them with a sense of belonging and community.

Harpal has been tirelessly doing this important work on her own for years, and United Way is thrilled to support her efforts and excited about what's to come in 2025!

Thank you, Harpal, for your dedication and passion for making a difference in our community! We are truly grateful for all you do. 🙏💖
