🌍💗 This World Health Day, we are proud to celebrate Jacqueline (Jackie) Flett’s first year as a member of the Indigenous Women’s HIV and STBBI Wellness Hub, operated via the Roots to Wellness Research Collaboratory as a sub-hub of the national Women-Centered HIV Care (WCHC) Hub.

Over the past year, Jackie has brought powerful lived experience, unwavering advocacy, and a deep commitment to uplifting women living with HIV across communities. Her presence reflects the heart of women-centered HIV care—community, empowerment, and the belief that every woman’s voice matters.

🌱✨ Building Community Partnerships for Youth Wellness ✨🌱

TEAM SOUDA and SAMHAA team members recently connected with the incredible team at Foundry Surrey Central to explore potential collaborations and shared goals around supporting youth in our communities.

We’re grateful to the Foundry team for the warm welcome and for providing a tour of their facility, highlighting the wide range of free, confidential services available to youth (ages 12–24) and their families.

From mental health support, substance use services, peer support, and primary care to work & education programs, Foundry is creating a truly inclusive, youth-friendly space where young people can access care without barriers.

🤝 At SOUDA, we believe in the power of community collaboration, and we’re excited to share that more programs and workshops are on the way through this partnership between SOUDA, SAMHAA, and Foundry.

A special thank you to Avneet Dhillon for helping make this partnership possible—we truly appreciate your leadership and support in bringing these organizations together.

Stay tuned for upcoming initiatives as we continue working together to strengthen support systems for youth 💙

Team SOUDA was honoured to be one of the community booths at the 2026 iCON South Asian Health Forum: “Your Health in Your Hands: Preventing and Managing Stroke.” 💚

With over 200 community members in attendance, this forum created-created space for important conversations around stroke prevention, early warning signs, risk factors, and recovery. It was powerful to see families, healthcare professionals, and community partners come together for culturally accessible health education.

At our booth, SOUDA volunteers connected with participants and shared mental health, substance use and overdose prevention, and system navigation resources.

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible SOUDA volunteers 🙌💙 Your dedication and commitment make this work possible.

Huge congratulations to Tajdeep Singh Sandhu, Co-Director of Students Overcoming Substance Use Disorder and Addictions (SOUDA), for an incredible achievement at the 2026 Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Moot in Toronto! 🎉⚖️

Tajdeep represented the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law with excellence and earned 3rd Place – Top Oralist Mooter among competitors from across the country. 🇨🇦

His dedication to advocacy, justice, and community leadership continues to inspire many of us. From championing harm reduction and recovery through SOUDA to excelling in legal advocacy on a national stage, Tajdeep truly embodies the spirit of service and leadership.

Congratulations as well to the entire University of Alberta team and their coach for bringing home multiple awards and representing their faculty with pride.

We are incredibly proud of you, Tajdeep! Your hard work and commitment continue to uplift our community. 👏🏽

CommunityLeadership

Last weekend, Team SOUDA conducted an outreach booth at Gurdwara Kalgidhar Darbar Sahib, Abbotsford! 💙

The toxic drug crisis is affecting communities across British Columbia, and addressing it requires awareness, education, and a united effort rooted in compassion and care.

Our team raised awareness about the toxic drug crisis impacting communities across BC, provided overdose prevention and response education, offered Naloxone training and basic first aid, and connected individuals and families to mental health and substance use supports. Every conversation matters, and every resource shared can make a life-saving difference.

We were also honoured to have S Kulpreet Singh ji speak on key issues affecting youth, including mental health, substance use, protecting our children from sexual predators, and practical ways to build healthy relationships and safer communities.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and supported our mission. Your engagement is what makes this work impactful. 🙏

Be sure to follow Team Souda and keep an eye on our page for upcoming booth dates. We can’t wait to see you at the next one! ✨
