🐢 Legacies in the Sand: Happy World Sea Turtle Day! 🌊

​Today, we join the global community in celebrating World Sea Turtle Day. Here in Ambergris Caye, we are celebrating a legacy that spans over twenty years! 🇧🇿

​Ambergris Caye holds a special place in the story of sea turtle conservation, maintaining some of the highest nesting densities in Belize, specifically across Robles, Rocky Point, Basil Jones, and Punta Azul.

​Behind those numbers is an incredible journey of dedication:
​Over 1000 Nests Monitored 🥚✨️
Decades of treks up north, feeding mosquitoes 😂 and meticulous data collection. 🦟🚶‍♂️
​Thousands of tiny flippers reaching the Sea, giving these endangered species a fighting chance. 🌊🐢

​This milestone belongs to an entire community of conservationists. We honor those from the past who walked these beaches first, established these monitoring protocols, and dedicated their years to laying the groundwork, then passing the torch to the new and incoming conservationists 🤝.

​To our past champions and our fierce present team thank you 🙌👏. Your work and passion have directly contributed to increasing the sea turtle population in Belize.

Update on the validity of HCMR letters of no objections

 San Pedro Town, June 12th, 2026

Hol Chan Marine Reserve (HCMR) hereby advises the public that effective immediately, all previously issued letters of no objection for projects that have not yet commenced construction are officially retracted.

Environmental conditions and coastal standards change over time. These previously issued letters were given after site visits by our Technical Team and cannot be used to break ground after a long period of time has passed. This retraction does not affect those projects that are currently underway with valid regulatory permits.

As noted in all letters, a No Objection letter does not constitute a final regulatory permit. Property owners with pending projects who wish to move forward in the future must contact our office to submit a new request. 

Please be reminded that all development and structures within the Reserve strictly require a Letter of No Objection from the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Furthermore, all final regulatory permits from relevant authorities must be submitted to our offices for verification before any physical work can begin.

📢 New Location Announcement! 📢
Our Caye Caulker office has officially moved! We are now located at the corner of Estrella Street and Avenida Hicaco (on the beachside), just a short walk straight down to the beach from our temporary location. Come look for the yellow building with the blue trim! 🌊🏝️

🐢 Ambergris Caye Sea Turtle Nesting Update No.2 🌊

​Our confirmed nest count is officially up to 11 as of yesterday! 🥚✨

​While we wait for the magic to happen under the sand, we’ve been busy getting the beaches ready. This past Saturday, our team and some amazing community volunteers removed 35 bags of trash from these crucial nesting beaches in an effort to give the mamas and future hatchlings a clean and safe path.! 💪🧹

​A massive thank you to our incredible community, every nest counts! 💙
