Today we celebrate Rudy Aguilar's 20th anniversary with Belize Botanic Gardens. Rudy is the heart of the Gardens and we can't imagine where we would be without him. Our team is small, but Rudy continually leads us to accomplish great things!

He doesn't just make a difference in the Gardens. Rudy's work in sustainable horticulture and plant conservation education makes our world a little better and his good deeds have not gone unnoticed. He was awarded the prestigious Marsh Award for Contribution to Education in Botanic Gardens at the World Botanic Congress and is regularly invited to present at regional botanic garden conferences, universities and area organizations.

It is his natural ability to relate to people that truly sets Rudy apart. Whether talking to folks young, old, home and abroad - his calm demeanor, knowledge and ready smile makes him the greatest garden ambassador and all around good human!

Rudy, thank you, we are looking forward to the next 20 years!!!!!

As we recognize today's International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, we are reminded that protecting our atmosphere and our planet requires action at every level — including how we care for the land around us.
In connection with this important day, our team recently visited Santa Familia School for a site visit as we prepare to establish an agroforestry plot on the school grounds. We had the opportunity to meet with the principal, explore the area, and begin planning for a space that will support biodiversity, healthier soils, and hands-on environmental learning for students.
🌳 Every tree planted, every ecosystem restored, and every young person inspired to care for nature is a step toward a healthier and more resilient future.
This initiative is being carried out through our “Restoring Resilience: Syntropic Agroforestry Education and Demonstration” Project, funded by GEF Small Grants Programme Belize
We’re excited to watch this project take root and grow because protecting our planet starts with what we do today. 💚

After three months with us, it’s time to say a big THANK YOU to our intern, Arnaud!
During his time at Belize Botanic Gardens, Arnaud worked on landscaping design, helping us envision a fresh new look for the entrance and parking area of the Garden. His creativity, ideas, and hard work will contribute to making our Garden an even more welcoming space for our visitors.
We truly appreciate interns like Arnaud who bring their knowledge, creativity, and fresh perspectives to BBG. Internships are a wonderful opportunity to learn, contribute, and gain hands-on experience in a living botanical garden.
