SATIIM was honored to attend the Official Donation Ceremony for Regional Integration and Border Management, funded by the European Union and IOM โ€“ UN Migration.

Our Executive Director, Ms. Maya Choc, represented SATIIM as we prepare to implement an initiative focused on strengthening Indigenous-led conservation and land security in the Sarstoon Temash Region.

Through this initiative, SATIIM will equip community members with the knowledge and skills to become biocultural guardians, strengthen conservation monitoring and patrols, document ecological and cultural knowledge, and develop a framework for community-based conservation governance, helping communities protect their lands while strengthening collaboration between communities and relevant government agencies.

SATIIM extends its sincere gratitude to the European Union and IOM โ€“ UN Migration for their generous support and partnership.
We look forward to working together to make this project a success and to creating lasting benefits for the communities, lands, and biodiversity of the Sarstoon Temash Region.

Community-Led Development in Action

SATIIM had the pleasure of working alongside the inspiring women of Santa Teresa during a community-led development planning session focused on strengthening their vision for the future.

Together, we reflected on the challenges of traditional agriculture, celebrated what we have accomplished, and explored the goals and opportunities we hope to achieve moving forward. The session also provided an opportunity to discuss how SATIIM can continue to support and empower our women farmers as they strengthen their livelihoods and contribute to the development of their community.

When communities lead, meaningful change begins from within.๐Ÿ’š

Together, we plan. Together, we grow. Together, we build stronger communities.

SATIIM is supporting community capacity-building through training on the Maya of Southern Belize Free, Prior and Informed Consultation (FPIC) Protocol.

We are inviting community leaders, community groups, cooperatives, and interested community members to attend upcoming information sessions to learn more about the Community FPIC training opportunity.

The training will help communities better understand FPIC, the process involved, and how they can actively participate and take the lead in consultation processes that affect their communities.

Training opportunities are limited to a number of communities. The information session will explain the training approach and how interested communities can express their interest in participating.

After our information session in Corazon Village today, we stopped in Santa Teresa to visit one of our amazing women farmers, and she sent us on our way with a beautiful reminder of what the land can provide: plums, peppers, spring onions, bananas, and plenty more.

From community to cultivation and harvest, when we continue to work alongside our farmers and nurture the land, it gives back in abundance. ๐ŸŒฟ

SATIIM continues to support women in strengthening their role in traditional agriculture and community livelihoods. Today, we were honored to receive cilantro seeds and beans from one of our women farmers. Through seed banking and reciprocation, these seeds will be passed on to another farmer to nurture, harvest, and continue the cycle.

Seed banking is more than storing crops; it is a way of protecting generations of agricultural heritage. Every seed exchange carries the knowledge, resilience, and story of the hands that cared for it before.

Through this practice, women farmers continue to play an important role in sustaining the traditions that will help to nourish communities for generations.
