October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! What are you doing to get tested? 🎀
Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Belize? Every year, about 85 to 89 women in our country receive this diagnosis, and sadly, roughly 68% of cases are found at advanced stages. While it mostly affects women over 50, it can impact anyone—from young adults in their 20s to our beloved elders.
Early detection saves lives! When caught early, treatment is much more effective. Take control of your health today with these three simple steps:
• Know Your Body: Check your breasts monthly for new lumps, skin dimpling, or ni**le changes.
• Get Checked: Visit a doctor or nurse for a clinical breast exam every 1 to 3 years if you are under 40, and annually if you are 40+.
• Schedule a Mammogram: If you are between 40 and 74, aim for a screening every 1 to 2 years (or earlier if you have a family history).
Don't wait! Public polyclinics, regional hospitals, and the Belize Cancer Society offer resources and guidance to help you get screened.
