NTUCB advocates for decent work for all workers of Belize.

Decent work should be a reality for all. Fair wages, labour rights, social protection, respect and safety at work. 🌏

As we mark World Day for Decent Work (Oct 7), let’s stand for a future where everyone, including young workers, women and persons with disabilities, has access to decent work and can live and work with dignity.

Too often, having a job does not guarantee a life of dignity. Decent work is a fundamental human right. It means fair pay, equality, dignity and safe working conditions — and it should be a reality for everyone.

Workplaces must uphold workers’ rights, ensure equal opportunities and promote inclusive growth.

For over 100 years, the International Labour Organization has worked to achieve social justice and decent work for all.

Wednesday is World Day for Decent Work.

On , we highlight the importance of adapting social protection systems to demographic change.

Living longer is a major achievement. But longer and more diverse lives also bring changing needs for income security, health care, care and support, while working lives are evolving too.

Social protection systems need to keep pace. This requires that pension schemes effectively prevent poverty and ensure income security in old age while being sustainably and equitably financed, and that effective access to quality long-term care is available for those who need it.

It also means greater emphasis on supporting decent employment throughout people’s working lives, ensuring adequate social protection for workers in all types of employment, facilitating work-family balance, and promoting gender equality in the world of work and in social protection. At the same time, it requires ensuring social security for care workers, as an important dimension of decent work.

Building social protection systems that respond to longer and more diverse lives is key to ensuring adequate protection throughout the life course including in old age.
