Celebrating Our 2026 Green Future Scholars! πŸŽ“πŸŒ³

On August 21, 2026, BMFT welcomed our 2026 Green Future Scholarship recipients to the Community Stewards Program with a visit to the Belize Maya Forest (BMF) for a special learning experience and scholarship award ceremony.

The visit was an opportunity for our scholars to step into the landscape they are helping to protect and learn more about BMFT’s conservation efforts, biodiversity, community steward programs, and the importance of safeguarding the Belize Maya Forest for future generations. πŸŒ³πŸ†πŸ¦œ

Our scholars also had the opportunity to meet the dedicated team behind the conservation of this incredible landscape and learn about the different roles that contribute to protecting the BMF, from field conservation and monitoring to community outreach, and stewardship.

Special thank you to Re:wild DELTA Foundation and British Army Training Support Unit Belize for supporting the Green Future Scholarship Program and investing in the education and future of young Belizeans. Your partnership helps create opportunities for students to pursue their dreams while strengthening the next generation of conservation-minded leaders. πŸ’š

Congratulations, 2026 Green Future Scholars! πŸ€—
Your journey is just beginning, and we are excited to walk alongside you.

πŸ†πŸŒ³There is no greater honor than protecting a landscape where iconic species like the Jaguar (Panthera onca) and the Puma (Puma concolor) continue to roam free.

Last month, camera traps in the Laguna Seca area captured these incredible visitors, reminding us why conserving the Belize Maya Forest is so important. Every image is a testament to the value of protecting healthy forests that provide safe habitat for wildlife and help maintain the balance of nature. πŸ’šπŸŒŽ

🐝 Learning About Stingless Bees! πŸŒ³πŸ…
These tiny pollinators play a huge role in keeping our forests healthy, supporting biodiversity, helping produce the food on our tables, and providing valuable medicinal products. By protecting stingless bees, we are helping to maintain a healthy and balanced ecosystem for future generations.

A big thank you to Kennedy Brinson, a PhD student researching stingless bees in Belize, for leading an inspiring learning session on the different types of bees and the incredible value of stingless bees as gentle pollinators.

Today, on World Ranger Day, we proudly honor the dedicated women and men who stand on the frontlines of conservation, protecting the Belize Maya Forest and the natural treasures of Belize and around the world.

Every patrol, every wildfire prevented, every wildlife sighting recorded, and every community engagement reflects the commitment, courage, and resilience of our rangers. Their work safeguards critical habitats, protects biodiversity, and ensures that future generations can continue to benefit from healthy forests and thriving wildlife.

Today, we celebrate your service, honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and thank every ranger for making a difference.

πŸ’š Happy World Ranger Day! Thank you for protecting nature, wildlife, and our shared future.

Stronger together, from ridge to reef! 🌊🌳

The BMFT team recently came together for our annual Staff Retreat, beginning with an interactive communication and team-building session facilitated by Chamberlain Consulting Ltd. Following with an informative presentation from the Communities for Wildlife Jaguar Monitoring Team and Virginia Tech who shared the journey and impact of their long-term wildlife monitoring efforts in the Belize Maya Forest. 🐾

We then visited our conservation partners at Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association (TASA) and the University of Belize Environmental Research Institute's Calabash Caye Field Station, where we explored the importance of a ridge-to-reef approach to conservation while experiencing Belize's incredible reef and marine ecosystems firsthand. 🀝

This retreat strengthened our teamwork, inspired new ideas, and reinforced that strong conservation is built on collaboration, partnerships, and a shared vision. Together, we continue building a stronger future for the Belize Maya Forest landscape. πŸ’š
