The NFA extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Gavin Bellamy, JP, for his years of dedicated service as Chief Executive Officer.

Under his leadership, Dr. Bellamy made meaningful contributions to the growth and development of the NFA and Jamaica's fisheries sector.

Today we feature another : Judith Gobin, Marine Science and Policy Adviser in Trinidad and Tobago.

Judith has always been drawn to the ocean for the peace and curiosity it inspires, particularly the mystery of what lies beneath its surface. Among her proudest achievements is having a newly discovered deep-sea giant tube worm named in her honor, a milestone that reflects her significant contributions to marine science. While she notes that limited national and regional opportunities in marine science can pose challenges for women and girls entering the field, she credits her success to strong international collaborations and mentorship from remarkable women scientists. She is especially inspired by Patricia Miloslavich of the Australian Antarctic Division, whose global leadership and resilience, rooted in her beginnings at Simón Bolívar University, demonstrate how perseverance can overcome obstacles. Judith encourages girls to follow what inspires them, remembering that ocean careers extend beyond traditional science into policy, communications, law, and other marine-related paths, all of which play vital roles in shaping the future of our seas.
