Sometimes kids need more than “take a deep breath.” 💚
When emotions are running high, simple physical strategies can give kids something concrete to do while they work toward calming their bodies and regaining control.
Here are 8 easy strategies to practice together:
• Triangle breathing
• Blow a “bubble”
• Pretzel arms
• Shoulder shrugs
• Knee hugs
• Toe tucks
• Palm presses
• Helpful handshake
The key: practice these when kids are already calm. That way, the strategies are familiar and much easier to use when they’re actually upset, frustrated, worried, or overwhelmed.
Save this one for later — and try a few with your child to figure out which ones work best for them. 💚
