Belize Sea Scouts The Mission of the Sea Scouts is to contribute to the development of young people through sailing. How to Join?

The Sea Scouts in Belize is a co-ed program for young people between the ages of 8-14. Sea Scouting is an exciting program with plenty of opportunities based upon a rich tradition. We would like you to come on-board and join us in our mission! Since 2005, the Belize Sea Scouts has been providing opportunities to young persons, including those with economic need, through our youth sailing program. We supply them with safety equipment and subsidize their field activities costs. We maintain 6 boats donated to us, and these serve as outdoor classrooms that facilitate personal attention and quality instruction. Through the challenges the sea offers, we are able to teach both practical and life skills, and several graduates from the progam have taken on maritime careers, while others have found a lifetime hobby and outdoor recreational activity. Some History: The Belize Sea Scouts have made the Buttonwood Bay area their home and over 100 youths have passed over its’ decks. The Belize Sea Scouts, 1st Merlin Troop was established in Belize City in 2005. We are a registered troop under the Scout Association of Belize. Please feel free to contact us for more information at [email protected]. We also welcome any query or support you can give.

The Skipper also takes this opportinity to thank a willing technical advisor, Mr Neil Bradley, of Casa Amalia, who was more than willing to share his decades of experience in regatta planning and administration and was instrumental in launching the Caye Caulker Sailing Club. A heart felt thanks from the Skipper on behalf of the entire Belize Sea Scouts.

Here are a few photos of the Belize Sea Scouts alumni Bruce Young and Joshie Josh D-muzikman who were on deck to assist with the transport from the Belize Coast Guard(BCG) HQ. We are grateful that the boat section of the BCG could have helped with some minor but critical repairs that prevented serious leaks experienced last year. Of course. we are humbled by the generous support of the Baron Bliss Harbour Regatta Committee that donated $1,000 in boat repair materials that the BCG used. A big thank you to BBHRC and BCG. Bruce and Joshua placed 2nd in the Bosun class but it should be noted that the raced against a different class, RS Feva, which is a faster and more modern design. This is the Belize Sea Scout way. We are inclusive and the Feva was allowed to sail against the Belize Sea Scouts and Bosuns. The sailors in the RS Feva hail all the way from Placencia and we were happy to accommodate our sailing brothers. We also are returning the love we receive from Mrs. Maria( Angelina Menzies de Cabral and Commodore Alvin Cabral when attending Placencia Sailing Club's regatta. Their regatta is May 2 and 3rd, 2026.
