Statement on the LLB Programme Offered by GUC
Ministry of Higher Education, Botswana Botswana Qualifications Authority - BQA Department of Tertiary Education Financing
The matter concerning the LLB programme offered by GUC requires urgent attention and clear communication from relevant authorities. As stakeholders, we believe it is important to hear an informed and transparent position, particularly because public funds taxpayers’ money have been invested in this programme with the expectation that it serves both the best interests of students and the broader development goals of the country.
In this regard, clarity is needed on the role of the BQA beyond the initial accreditation of programmes.
Specifically:
What mechanisms are in place for ongoing monitoring and quality assurance after accreditation?
What feedback or reports are provided to the financier, particularly the government, regarding the performance and compliance of such programmes?
How does BQA collaborate and align with professional and regulatory bodies, such as the Law Society of Botswana, to ensure that accredited programmes meet both academic and professional requirements within the legal framework?
It is essential that there is a clear and coordinated relationship between accreditation bodies, regulatory authorities, and government institutions such as the Ministry of Higher Education. This collaboration must ensure that all programmes not only meet academic standards but are also legally recognized and aligned with national development priorities.
Ultimately, students and the public deserve assurance that accredited programmes are credible, professionally recognized, and a worthwhile investment of both time and public resources. Transparency and accountability in this matter are therefore critical.
