Climate change discussions often mention “carbon,” but carbon actually exists in different forms that affect our planet in different ways. 🌍

Black Carbon comes from incomplete burning of fuels and strongly warms the atmosphere.

Brown Carbon comes from biomass burning and also contributes to atmospheric heating.

Blue Carbon is the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems, helping regulate the climate.

Green Carbon is stored in forests, plants, and soils on land.

Red Carbon refers to biological material on snow and ice that can accelerate melting.

Grey Carbon is linked to emissions from fossil fuel–based industries.

Understanding these different types of carbon helps us see how nature stores carbon and how human activities release it. Protecting ecosystems, restoring soils, and reducing pollution are all important steps toward a healthier climate. 🌱

At ResClime, we believe regenerative agriculture and ecosystem restoration are part of the solution for building climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

🌱🇧🇼 National Tree Planting Day 2025 — Mojamorago RAS 1 Club x ResClime 🇧🇼🌱

Today, ResClime had the honour of celebrating National Tree Planting Day with the amazing RAS 1 Club students in Mojamorago, reaching over 80 young environmental champions!

Under this year’s national theme “Forests and Foods”, we planted the Tree of the Year—Motsentsela (Berchemia discolor)—using a climate-smart technique: planting trees on swales.

✨ Why swales?
Swales help capture rainwater, stop soil erosion, and keep moisture in the ground. When trees are planted on the lower side of a swale, they grow stronger, survive longer, and create healthier soils. Fallen leaves also settle in the swale, becoming natural compost that feeds the tree over time. 🌧️➡️🌿

A huge thank you to the headteacher Miss Senabjwe, Forestry Department, Honorable Steve, teachers, ResClime members, RAS 1 Club, and all partners who made this day meaningful.

🌳 Together, we grow a climate-resilient generation.

🌿 ResClime Permaculture Workshop with Sefhophe Community a Success! 🌿

ResClime recently held a Permaculture Workshop with the Sefhophe community, attracting around 60 enthusiastic participants! 🎉

The workshop focused on deepening understanding of permaculture principles, sustainable farming, and ecosystem balance. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on how we can work with nature to build climate-resilient and regenerative communities. 🌾💧

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Sefhophe community for their warm participation and commitment to learning. Together, we continue to grow towards a greener and sustainable future. 💚

🌱 ResClime School Outreach Update! 🌱

The ResClime Team was out to meet the ResClime Agri-School 1 (RAS1) as part of our ongoing school outreach program at Mojamorago CJSS, Selebi-Phikwe. 💚

This exciting visit marks another step in empowering young learners to take an active role in climate-smart agriculture and permaculture education. Together, we are nurturing the next generation of environmental leaders and changemakers! 🌿✨

🌱 Did You Know? Soil is Alive! 🌿

When we talk about healthy soil, we’re not just talking about dirt — we’re talking about a living ecosystem beneath our feet! 👣

Every handful of soil is full of life — tiny organisms like bacteria, fungi, earthworms, and insects all working together to recycle nutrients, store carbon, and help plants grow strong. 🌾✨

Here’s what makes soil alive:
🌍 Microorganisms break down organic matter into nutrients that plants can use.
🪱 Earthworms aerate the soil, improving water flow and root growth.
🍄 Fungi connect plant roots through underground networks — the “internet of the soil.”
🌿 Insects and microbes keep harmful pests in check and balance the ecosystem.

When we take care of the soil — by using compost, avoiding chemicals, and planting diverse crops — we protect this invisible community that sustains all life on Earth. 🌎💚

At ResClime, we believe that healthy soil is the foundation of regenerative farming and climate resilience. Let’s nurture our soil so it can continue to nurture us! 🌾🤝
