This morning, I had the pleasure of joining Cathy Malejane on “Phage - The GBV Talk” on Gabz FM. We delved into the pressing issue of gender-based violence, current trends in violence around the country, and highlighted the impactful work that I, through my community service project, the Letsibogo Foundation, am doing to support and empower affected communities.

I, through the Letsibogo Foundation, in collaboration with the Botswana Gender Based Violence Prevention & Support Centre (BGBVSC) visited Otse village yesterday, to facilitate a GBV awareness and support campaign.

On invitation by Kgosi Tsetse, chief of Otse village and the office of the social worker, we had the opportunity to engage in an enlightening open dialogue session where morafe (the community) aired their opinions, apprehensions and grievances, as is norm in the traditional Kgotla setting. Many highlighted the alarmingly increasing number of child murders and what could be done to remedy this!

After the adjournment of this meeting, we donated some food hampers and clothing to a number of GBV affected families, as many of them are living in dire need. We will, over the next few weeks rollout a number of initiatives, many of which are around entrepreneurial empowerment, as a way to empower these individuals to live more financially independent lives. I was joined by my usual entourage, Mrs Lolo Letlhare and Mrs Kesego Leine ❤️

Let’s work together to create a better Botswana for our children, and most importantly, the future generations!

USING SPORTS TO DRIVE CHANGE
Yesterday, Letsibogo Foundation, together with its partners and Founder, had the pleasure of visiting Happy Home Botswana, an NGO that supports underprivileged children in the Old Naledi–Zola township. Founded in 2005, the organization works to alleviate the difficult conditions faced by children affected by poverty, neglect, and/or orphanhood.

For over a decade and a half, Happy Home Botswana has provided daily meals to countless children in the community, many of whom come from extremely vulnerable households. In support of their work, Letsibogo Foundation donated 10 full school uniforms to selected children at the centre.

Ms. Lesego Sekalaba, Chief Caregiver at Happy Home Botswana, shared that the organisation has expanded its services over the years to include tutoring and sports programmes aimed at rehabilitation and keeping children positively engaged and off the streets.

The importance of sport as a tool for transformation resonated strongly, as the centre continues to use sporting activities to build confidence, discipline, and life skills among the children.

Yesterday, the founder of Letsibogo Foundation, Oampata Faith Leroy, together with her team, was honoured to receive an invitation from Kgosi Tsetse of Otse village to attend a workshop hosted by the Botswana Police Service No. 4 District on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), drug and substance abuse.

She had the opportunity to share insights on GBV, its impact on vulnerable communities, and how, through the Letsibogo Foundation, we are working towards addressing and responding to these challenges. Together, let us continue working towards building a better Botswana for our children and future generations.
