In a most bizarre twist of events, well known and reported cases [with the Kweneng District Council] of illegal waste dumping cases remain unresolved despite. In one sickening scenario, truck-loads of garbage was traced back to a well-known registered entity situated at the Thamaga turn off or junction [names known to this publication]. Collected evidence was submitted to the council authorities and a complaint lodged with the Environmental department, whom for months have not acted on the case to bring remediation. Follow up queries continue to be not acted upon and this has somewhat brought a sense of distrust on those entrusted with public office. We challenge this business entity to do the needful by simply going back there to re-load their rubbish [that has been sitting there for months]. Let’s all stand up united to fight against pollution, esp. illegal waste disposal.

On the 07th Feb 2023 at about 1140am, two young men driving a dyna or better known as matshelonyana were intercepted whilst illegally dumping waste at Masugankwe Ward Molepolole. Please let's make effort to take our waste to places designated for such. We need to act together as different stakeholders and the community to combat such bad behavior. In the event you come across them gather enough evidence that could lead to arrests and prosecution. Thank you

DEFILEMENT CASES ON THE INCREASE

Molepolole station commander Benedict Matlho is concerned by the escalating number of defilement cases. Speaking in an interview, Matlho said since the defilement age was increased from 16 years to 18 years, the District has experienced a sharp increase.

He noted that both genders are victims as boys also get defiled. Matlho said the boys are in most cases defiled by girls in the same age bracket and rarely older women.

"The law says if the act is between a minor who is 4 years older or less than the victim, there is no prosecution, however, we open a case and investigate then forward to DPP for assessment of evidence. DPP is the one which makes that decision. " He added that it is not often easy to withdraw a defilement case as the law protects minors.

He warned parents against leaving their children unattended or with strangers.
