BTU MAUN REGIONAL COMMITTEE PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE MAUN CENTRE FOR THE SPECIAL UNIT

The Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) Maun Regional Committee paid a courtesy visit to the Maun Centre for Special Unit on Wednesday as part of ongoing engagement with members and institutional management.

The delegation included the Regional Organiser (RO), Comrade Florence Banda; Vice Regional Organiser (VRO), Primary, Comrade Moriri; VRO, Pre-Primary, Cde Mogamogi; Vice Regional Organiser (VRO), Secondary, Comrade Rahube; and Assistant Administration Officer, Ms Tidimalo Bolokwe.

The purpose of the visit was to meet and greet fellow comrades, strengthen union relations, update members on the Union's engagements with the employer, and share available union products and services.

During the engagement, Cde Rahube highlighted BTU products and services, while Cde Mogamogi emphasised the importance of strong work ethics in the workplace, providing clear insights into the union's focus areas.

In her remarks, Comrade Banda shared union updates and emphasised the union's commitment to advocating for members' welfare, encouraging members to use union services to build trust and confidence.

Welcoming the Union delegation, Maitumelo Alex Ntshime
Head of Unit-Functional Life Skills and Academics expressed appreciation for the union’s visit, noting that the centre is still new and such engagements are valuable for staff morale and guidance.

He further encouraged the union to consider introducing a retirement savings scheme where members could contribute towards their future, with the union adding a certain percentage to enhance benefits. He also proposed investment initiatives, such as property and land acquisition schemes, to benefit members, outlining potential future projects.

The visit strengthened the union and centre's collaboration, with both sides committed to ongoing engagement and mutual support, reinforcing a shared purpose.

RAKOPS REGIONAL COMMITTEE ORGANISE WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOLS

Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) Rakops Regional Committee organised a combined workshop for Makalamabedi Primary School, Makalamabedi Junior Secondary School and Baipidi Primary School.

The workshop was attended by teachers and support staff from these schools, during which they were trained in Professionalism, Smart Work Ethics, and Governing Statutes, such as the Public Service Act and the Employment and Labour Relations Act.

BTU Maun Regional Office Industrial Relations Officer, Mr Michael Ramatlapeng, facilitated it.
