October is the month of BREAST CANCER AWARENESS, a global opportunity to raise awareness of breast cancer and call for action to improve access to timely diagnosis and quality care.

This year’s theme, "Every story is unique, every journey matters", recognises that every breast cancer experience is different. Behind every diagnosis is a person, a family and a unique journey.

Every person affected by breast cancer deserves to be supported and treated with dignity. And anyone, wherever they live, should have access to the care they need.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. The Organisation says, in 2024:

- 2.4 million women were diagnosed with cancer worldwide
- 694,000 women died from the disease
- 8.2 million women were living with breast cancer at the end of the year

Therefore, to ensure early detection and treatment, women are encouraged to:

- CHECK their breasts regularly
- GET screened early
- SEEK timely diagnostic and treatment
- SUPPORT every journey

INVITATION TO BTU MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) members and their families are invited to a STARGAZING NIGHT to explore the night sky and discover the universe's wonders.

The session is part of the World Space Week Programme, which will allow participating learners, teachers, and community members to observe the night sky and engage with astronomy in an informal, interactive setting.

The invitation to BTU members and their families is part of the benefits of the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the Union signed with BIUST. The MoU provides a framework for collaboration in advancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and outreach.

The solidarity message was from both BTU and SATO - Southern Africa Teachers' Organisation, where he is serving as Secretary-General.

PRESIDENT GABANA ATTENDS SNAT ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) President, who is also the Secretary General of the SATO - Southern Africa Teachers' Organisation, Comrade Agang Gabana, is attending the Annual National Conference of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT).

The President will later today give solidarity messages on behalf of BTU and SATO.
