Bush Ways Foundation

Bush Ways Foundation Passionate about Botswana's people and wilderness, we provide support to the communities and areas where we operate and to preserve our natural wonders.

Passionate about Botswana's people and wilderness, we continuously strive to ensure our activities have a positive impact and contribute to a sustainable development of our natural wonders. Having collaborated for 20 years on a daily basis with a variety of organisations in Northern Botswana promoting local development, we have managed to identify the support needed to improve the socio-economic s

tatus of the communities and areas where we operate. We have therefore developed a variety of projects in the fields of business development, education, health, social welfare, and environmental conservation that we conduct within the villages in the vicinity of our camps and safaris. With the generous support of our guests and industry partners, we are also able to donate to NGOs and communities on a regular basis.

When kindness meets purpose, meaningful change happens.

After staying with us, one of our guests was inspired to support Khwai Pre-Primary School, one of the schools supported through the Bush Ways Foundation. With a generous donation, we were able to purchase much-needed supplies from the school's wish list, and they are now ready to be delivered.

It's a beautiful reminder that travel has the power to leave a positive footprint long after the journey ends.

To our wonderful guest, thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of these young learners. We can't wait to share the smiles when the supplies reach the classroom.

What makes one elephant curious enough to investigate something and could that same curiosity influence crop-raiding behaviour?

Through the Bush Ways Foundation, we are proud to support Elephants for Africa, whose work is taking place in the Makgadikgadi-Nxai Pans and Greater Khumaga area.

Rachel Thomson a PhD Researcher is studying how elephants explore, investigate and respond to their surroundings, with the aim of understanding whether more curious individuals may be more likely to enter farming areas. The findings could help guide more informed and practical approaches to human-elephant coexistence in the future.

This month alone, the research team recorded 71 focal videos, completed eight field visits, collected more than 534 hours of camera-trap footage and introduced a new area of study looking at how elephants respond to passing safari vehicles.

Early observations have also shown female breeding herds displaying more curiosity toward the cameras than male elephants, an interesting insight that the team will continue exploring.

For us, conservation is not only about appreciating wildlife. It is also about supporting the research that helps people and elephants live alongside one another more safely.

What an incredible week at Khwai Pre-School!

We are overjoyed to share the highlights of a truly memorable visit to Khwai Pre-School, a week filled with excitement as they received a donation of XO mini laptops.

Teachers and pupils explored this amazing learning tool packed with programmes designed for early childhood development. And in a wonderful surprise, we also discovered adult learners in the community who will benefit from the laptops too because learning truly has no age limit!

We also conducted a Training Needs Assessment, delivered hands-on teacher training, and identified resources to help sustain quality education in this beautiful remote community.

From the little ones to the lifelong learners in Khwai, you inspire us!

Because when we invest in education, we invest in the future of our nation.

What an incredible week at Mababe Pre-School.

Through the Bush Ways Foundation, XO mini laptops were donated to support the young learners of Mababe, opening up new opportunities for early childhood learning in this remote community.

This past week, both teachers and pupils were introduced to these learning tools, which are designed with child-friendly icons and programmes that support early development, curiosity, and confidence in the classroom.

Alongside the handover, a Training Needs Assessment was carried out to better understand the support needed moving forward. Teachers also received hands-on training to help build confidence, strengthen skills, and identify the resources needed to sustain quality education at Mababe Pre-School.

Because when we invest in our children, we invest in the future of our nation.

A heartfelt thank you to Teacher Wendy Boucher for travelling to Mababe and sharing her expertise, passion, and care with the school community. Your contribution is truly making a difference.

Early childhood is where futures begin, and together, we are helping ensure that every child counts, no matter where they are.

Spreading warmth, one blanket at a time.

This morning the Bush Ways Foundation team went to Safari Destinations to deliver blankets collected by our clan in support of their annual Blanket Drive.

As the colder months approach, we are reminded that even the simplest act of kindness can bring comfort, dignity, and warmth to someone in need.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed and to Safari Destinations - Botswana & Zimbabwe for leading such a meaningful community initiative.

Together, we can make a difference.

From the waterways of Kazikini to the path of becoming a professional guide.

In 2025, one of our guests met Joel Jonah, affectionately known as Pablo, while he was poling through the waters of Kazikini. His skill, knowledge, and natural connection with guests and the environment left a lasting impression.

What followed was a truly meaningful gesture. Moved by Pablo’s passion and potential, our guest chose to support his future through the Bush Ways Foundation, helping fund his Nature Guide Scholarship.

This is the kind of impact that stays with us. It is a reminder that when guests travel with purpose and generosity, they can help create real opportunities in the communities connected to the wilderness they come to experience.

Bush Ways is proud to give Pablo the opportunity to grow, learn, and be mentored as he begins this next chapter.

To our guest, thank you for seeing Pablo’s potential and choosing to be part of his story. His journey is just beginning, and we are grateful to walk this path together.

The Bush Ways Foundation recently visited Khwai village to support education at Khwai Primary School with a donation of library books and learning aids.

The materials were received by the school leadership and will soon find their place in classrooms and the library as lessons resume.

From storybooks that spark imagination to learning aids that support everyday teaching, these resources are aimed at strengthening literacy, encouraging a love for reading, and supporting young learners on their journey.

In many rural communities, access to educational materials remains a challenge and it’s through partnerships like these that we can help bridge that gap.
