SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED ILLNESS ON THE RISE AMONG YOUNG WOMEN

Health authorities are reporting a rise in sexually transmitted infections, particularly among young women.

Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Christopher Nyanga says the tough fiscal environment is pushing some young women into relationships with older men for economic reasons, contributing to the surge.

He said recent national data shows HIV and STI prevalence among women aged 20–24 at 6.7 percent, compared to 2.7 percent among men in the same age group.

Our team arrived at Taj Mahalapye today, extending our engagements to Mookane and Mokobeng—home to the MindPower Movement and Mabogo a a Thebana, respectively.

We kicked off with an introductory briefing on the Adolescent and Young People (AYP) project presented to the District Multi-Sectoral AIDS Committee (DMSAC) in Mahalapye.

During our visit, we recognized and appreciated the primary healthcare (PHC) Health Promotion focal person, Ms. Energy, in Sefhare the Berth-Exclo Clinic. In Mokobeng, we convened a high-impact stakeholder meeting at Mokobeng Community Junior Secondary School (CJSS), engaging key local leaders, including: Teachers, represented by Ms. Teemane, Social and Community Development Officers represented by Ms. Dadani.

​As part of our ongoing coordination, we facilitated a dialogue to build capacity among field workers and community facilitators on pressing health issues affecting young people across the region.

Together, we can build a healthier, more empowered future for our young people!

Mopipi International sets foot in Bobcity - Chelede ke ya Bomma. We met up with Bobonong Home based care to introduce the AYP project FY2026/27. Primary Healthcare, Local stakeholders, School representatives, were present.

Shout out to Bofhabonetha, BOCAIP and Tebelopele for strengthened partnerships that serve AYP together with Bobonong Home based care.

The district is faced with teenage pregnancies just this year they report 13 cases from January to August 2026, Mopipi pledges its technical support to develop interventions to reduce this scourge.
