🎉🍣Japanese Sushi Making Party🍣🎉

On 14 May, we hosted our Japanese Sushi Making Party, and it turned out to be an absolutely wonderful day!🎌

Participants got hands-on making sushi and okonomiyaki, and enjoyed shiratama dango with fruit.
They also had the chance to taste anko (sweet red bean paste) and green tea — a truly immersive journey through Japanese food culture!🥢😋

After the feast, 6 Japanese guests introduced the children to traditional Japanese games — Fukuwarai, Kendama, Daruma Otoshi, Wanage, and Taketombo — filling the room with laughter and excitement💖

All of our guests were JICA volunteers who travelled from across Botswana just for this day — from Kasane and Maun in the north, to Molepolole and Mogoditshane in the south.
We are truly grateful for their support and for believing in what we do🌈

We hope this day was more than just fun. Through Japanese food, language, and traditional games, we hope it sparked curiosity, wonder, and a love of learning in every child who took part. Every new experience is a seed of learning — and we believe days like this plant many🌱

The baking session was a sweet success! 😊 The kids were excited to make cookies, wearing pink aprons with cute bunny designs. They rolled dough, cut shapes with red cookie cutters, and proudly displayed their creations on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. The atmosphere was fun and collaborative, with kids working together and smiling. This activity taught them teamwork and creativity while enjoying a tasty project. The session showed how hands-on experiences can engage children in meaningful learning and community building. 🍪👏

The children have been working hard every day practicing their songs🎤, dances🕺, model walks👠, and speeches 🗣️.

📢Mpho’s Tuck Shop Takes Off📢

Six months ago, thanks to generous support from Japan, we welcomed a new oven into our center🎌
Since then, our learners have explored Japanese cuisine and joined baking classes that blend creativity with real-life skills. Now, we’re excited to launch Mpho’s Tuck Shop — a student-led baked goods initiative!

👩‍🍳 With guidance and growing confidence, our older learners and budding bakers are preparing pound cakes and scones to sell at local schools and bus ranks. It’s more than a business — it’s a chance to learn, connect, and grow.

💡 All proceeds go toward supporting our NGO’s operations, helping us continue to provide meaningful programs for children and youth.

🌱 We believe that every experience opens new doors. Through this project, we hope to offer our learners not just tasty treats, but real-world opportunities and a glimpse into future possibilities.

🎓Graduation Celebration Highlights🎓

A heartfelt graduation party brought us all together.
Our younger students started the day with a trip to the supermarket, practicing real-life math by calculating quantities and change🛒📝
Learning isn’t just about sitting at a desk, it’s also about building practical skills and confident communication in everyday life🔥

Back at the center, everyone worked together to decorate and bake a delicious honey cake🤤🎂
Teamwork, creativity, and laughter filled the room💫

As we shared slices of the cake, graduates offered heartfelt messages reflecting on their journey. Their words reminded us why we do what we do💭
