JCI National Board Visit Inspires a Renewed Commitment to Impact
JCI Lobatse recently hosted an engaging and inspiring National Board Visit, bringing together members and leaders of Junior Chamber International (JCI) to reflect on the organizationโs purpose and the responsibility of young leaders to create meaningful community impact.
Founded in 1915, JCI is a global organization dedicated to developing active citizens who create positive change in their communities. Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, the organization operates through a structured global network across four regions: Africa and the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific, allowing members to act locally while remaining connected to a global leadership movement.
A key highlight of the visit was a comprehensive training delivered by 2024 JCI International Vice President, Rosemary Mothusi, who facilitated a session on the Overview of JCI. The training covered the history of JCI, the global and national structure of the organization, what it means to be a JCI member, and the various Areas of Opportunity within the organisation.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of how JCI operates as a leadership development platform and how members can utilize the organization to grow personally and professionally while creating meaningful community impact.
Throughout the session, members were reminded that impact remains the core of JCIโs mission. Leadership within the organization is not measured by titles or numbers, but by the tangible and measurable change created in communities. Members were encouraged to approach projects with intentionality by asking an important question: What impact will this initiative have on the community?
The engagement also highlighted the many opportunities available to members, including leadership development, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and global networking. Through these opportunities, members develop essential competencies such as communication, project management, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
Another inspiring moment came from JCI Senator Neo Monwela, who shared her personal leadership journey within the organization. She reflected on how she began as a member of JCI Gaborone before going on to resuscitate
the JCI Lobatse chapter. Within less than a year, the chapter successfully implemented several impactful and award-winning community service projects, demonstrating the power of vision, commitment, and teamwork.
Adding further perspective, National Vice President Mostakhim Habib emphasized that while membership growth is important, the true strength of JCI lies in the impact created within communities. He noted that even a small group of committed members can drive significant change when they remain focused on addressing real societal challenges.
The National Board Visit ultimately served as a powerful reminder of the responsibility and opportunity that comes with being part of JCI. Members were encouraged to step into leadership roles, maximize the opportunities available within the organization, and design initiatives that respond to the real needs of their communities.
For JCI Lobatse, the engagement reaffirmed a clear message: JCI is not just about membershipโit is about leadership, growth, and creating lasting positive change.
