As we observed the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 yesterday, the global community is called to face an undeniable truth: girls are being forced into early marriage at an alarming rate, and slow progress pushes us to ask the question of what needs to be done for the millions of girls around the world who still live in conditions that limit their potential.

The United Nations states that over 12 million young girls are married annually worldwide (about one every three seconds), with the highest prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa at 31%. Global efforts emphasise that legal reforms, social protections, and keeping girls in school have already averted it. Education is greatest.

Six decades ago, the international community made a historic promise—recognising the fundamental rights, responsibilities, and professional standing of educators worldwide.

At Humana People to People, 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆. Yet today, the vital role teachers play in our classrooms and communities is under threat from many diverse challenges.

Change starts with action. Through our network of Teacher Training Colleges, we see first-hand that resolving these overlapping education crises begins with restoring the profession's absolute dignity. Since 1993, our 55 Teacher Training Colleges across Africa and India have graduated nearly 70,000 primary school teachers - dynamic educators who are actively breaking barriers and delivering quality education to the most remote rural communities.

Gender Based Violence, (GBV), in relationships and marriages in Botswana is very common, but often hidden, coming in different faces, some of which include sexually, physically, economically and emotionally. This affects not only the two parties, but also their children, immediate family and relatives. It goes on to affect their productivity at work, ultimately affecting the community, society and nation at large.

In an effort to raise awareness on GBV and its detrimental effects, our Child Aid Phikwe center hosted a wedding ceremony in the form of a role play; from 'patlo & magadi' to the actual celebration. This role play highlighted different issues that usually contribute to GBV amongst couples. The role play highlighted different options on how to resolve conflict as soon as possible before it leads to GBV.

To all our partners, donors, stakeholders we work with, we are grateful, this activity could have not been successful without your input; 'le kamoso betsho! 'Together we can fight GBV in our households, communities and the nation at large.

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚, with studies indicating that up to two-thirds of women experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. Despite high rates, only a tiny fraction of cases are reported to authorities due to social stigma, fear and a culture of silence.

Join us at 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚 | 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐢𝐝 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐰𝐞, as we raise awareness on GBV, in the form of a wedding ceremony play.

We will be doing this alongside fellow NGO's and CBO's, Government Departments, Private sector, social clubs, stakeholders we work with as well as the community at large, as we stand firm against GBV in our community as well as in the country.
