WOMAN KILLED BY ELEPHANTS WHILE COLLECTING TSWII NEAR SHOROBE

A 37-year-old woman from Nxabe settlement near Shorobe village was killed by elephants on Saturday afternoon while collecting water lilies, known as Tswii.

According to Maun police, the woman was part of a group of six women who had gone to the river to harvest Tswii when a herd of elephants attacked.

The other five women managed to escape unharmed, but the deceased was left behind.

Her friends later said they heard her screaming from a distance.

After the elephants moved away, the women went back and found her lying still.

She was rushed to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The woman’s body is at the mortuary, waiting for a postmortem.

This is the third deadly elephant attack in the Maun area this year.
