Youth Impact

Youth Impact Connecting youth with proven life-changing information. https://www.youth-impact.org/ We are one of the largest youth-serving organizations in Botswana.

Youth Impact is a grassroots organization dedicated to bringing rigorous evidence off the academic shelf and using it to adapt and scale up health and education programs by youth for youth. Our programs have reached nearly 100,000 students in more than 600 schools across the country and shown impressive gains in HIV knowledge and numeracy. As such, we are a trusted partner of the Botswana governme

nt and we have a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Basic Education to collaborate on the scale-up of "Teaching at the Right Level" (TaRL), a proven approach to improving literacy and numeracy. In addition, Youth Impact's Advisory Forum is chaired by the former Permanent Secretary of Basic Education and our co-founder chairs the Botswana National Youth Council. Youth Impact has a regional implementation and knowledge footprint beyond Botswana. Our sexual and reproductive health program is being introduced in eSwatini and Malawi. We also are supporting the implementation of TaRL in Namibia and Kenya. Young 1ove is leading efforts to build an Innovation Hub in Botswana for TaRL to co-host trainings, share lessons learned, and test new innovations to maximize cost-effective impact at scale. It has partnered with the Government of Botswana and the Brookings Institution to be a Real-Time Scaling Lab as part of the Millions Learning project. Young 1ove is regularly invited to participate in fora to share our work, including workshops with the World Bank, the What Works Summit, and the Africa Evidence Network.

This week, our Botswana team is celebrating a milestone of helping over 100,000 children enroll in Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) in 2026 alone 🎉🇧🇼

Across 700+ of Botswana’s primary schools, our team has been working hand-in-hand with the BWgovernment and Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Botswana to bring catch-up maths and literacy support to the children who need it most, equip teachers to deliver it well, and make TaRL practical to implement at scale.

This is what great scaling looks like: growing the reach of a proven program exponentially, together with governments. Well done team!

Happy Global Day of Parents! đź’™

Today, we're celebrating the caregivers, parents and teachers who work together every day to support children's learning.

At Youth Impact, one lesson keeps coming up in our work: children learn best when the adults around them are working as a team.

🇧🇼In Botswana, our Education Compass surveys found that caregivers are highly engaged and eager to help their children learn, even when they don't always have enough information about how their child is progressing.

🧠We've seen the same story in our ConnectEd tutoring programme. In our research, we found that some of the biggest improvements in learning have come from involving caregivers more directly in their children's education.

Whether it's helping with homework, encouraging reading at home, joining a tutoring call, or staying in touch with teachers, these small actions can make a big difference. Today we're celebrating the parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers and caregivers who show up for children every day 🫶🏾

Thank you for everything you do. 🌟
