Introducing Diary of a cancer survivor to the Lamodimo donation drive.

This Cancer Awareness Month, we are walking alongside someone whose story remind us that care takes many forms. Meet Charlene Nadine Molapisi, the heart behind Diary of a cancer survivor

Charlene's journey through bone cancer is one she chose not to hide, but to write down on her book ( You Will Not Define Me).
Tells that story in her own words and the scar she carries today, she painted it instead of cover it, turning what could have been a source of pain into something beautiful.
That is the kind of courage and spirit behind this movement

Last week, we were at Madikwe Primary School in Bobonong, where we handed over school shoes and sanitary pads to learners, a moment made even more meaningful by the presence of the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Taolo Lucas who joined us as our Guest Speaker.

And he reminded us of something important.

As a social worker by profession, Hon. Lucas spoke passionately about protecting children and preserving their dignity : including when we show up to support them.

Because charity should never make a child feel like a charity case.

A child deserves to walk into a classroom feeling confident, comfortable and seen. Whether that means having the right shoes on their feet or having access to menstrual hygiene products, dignity matters.

The handover brought together the school leadership, teachers, Village Development Committee members, learners and community stakeholders; all playing a part in making sure the support reached the children it was intended for.

We are especially grateful to the people and organisations who helped make this possible:

👏🏾 Northside Primary school for spearheading the fundraising that made the school shoes and sanitary pads possible.

👏🏾 Nadsec Skills Development Institute, for contributing to the initiative.

👏🏾 Backyard View Restaurant, Bobonong, for helping us get the shoes where they needed to be.

👏🏾 And to everyone else whose contribution, big or small, helped move this initiative from an idea to something tangible in the hands,and on the feet of children.

A special thank you to Candice Manuel and team for spearheading the initiative as well as the Teachers at Madikwe Primary for coordinating the handover and ensuring that everything ran smoothly.

And to Hon Taolo Lucas thank you for showing up, for being accessible, and for continuing to put community development and the wellbeing of children at the centre of your work.

At Nayang, we believe that small acts can create big shifts.

A pair of shoes can restore confidence.
A sanitary pad can restore dignity.
A community that shows up can remind a child that they matter.

And this is why we keep showing up.

From Shorobe to Today: Look How Far Re Tsamaile

August 2015. A table full of school shoes, laid out with care on the southern side of Shorobe Village ,its roughly 26km north of Maun, in Botswana's North-West District.
This was one of our earliest journeys.Before the countdown graphics and flyers. It was just us, a bakkie full of shoes, and a promise to reach children in villages that often get forgotten.
Re a leboga, Shorobe. Thank you for being one of the first communities to trust us with this journey.

Batho ba pele. It's why we started, and it's why we're still going, all these years later, from Shorobe to Sese and every village in between.

Meet Our Founder | Kagiso Madibana

Nayang Association was founded by Kagiso Madibana, a communications specialist, Social entrepreneur and community development advocate with more than 17 years’ experience across journalism, communications, Research and Social impact.As a communications specialist, social entrepreneur and author of 3 books, her career includes work with the UNDP, Debswana ,Global Integrity/Mo Ibrahim Foundation and Sunday Standard alongside her work in corporate communications.
She is a former UK Government Chevening Scholar with an MA in Journalism, Media and Communications from Cardiff University and later on became Chairperson of Chevening Alumni Botswana from 2022 until 2024, when she started pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) at the Roxburg Institute of Social Entrepreneurship, with a focus on social enterprise and impact.

Kagiso established Nayang in 2014 after seeing the need for practical support for vulnerable children and communities. Since then, the organisation has supported children in remote areas of Botswana with school shoes, clothing and sanitary products, while also facilitating partnerships and resources that contributed to the development of LaModimo, an orphanage centre in Sese, Jwaneng.

Her work in community development has been recognised through the Commonwealth Point of Light Award (2021) and the International Dr. ARK Pillai Memorial Award (2025) among others.

Beyond Nayang, Kagiso is also the founder of Girls Under The Hood, an initiative empowering women and girls with automotive knowledge, skills and pathways into the automotive industry.

At the heart of her work is a simple belief: communities need more than good intentions : they need action, partnerships and people willing to show up.

This is the story behind Nayang Association.
