Today is the 78th birthday of Masao Kawasoe Sensei.

Masao Kawasoe is a prominent Shotōkan Karate master who initially studied under Katsunori Tsuyama. Later, when he joined the famous Takushoku University, he also received instructions from masters such as Masatoshi Nakayama, Hirokazu Kanazawa, Keinosuke Enoeda, among others.

After becoming a licensed Japan Karate Association (JKA) instructor, Masao Kawasoe traveled to many countries to teach Shotokan Karate, including Taiwan, Madagascar, Norway and the United Kingdom. In 2003, Masao Kawasoe decided to resign from JKA and focus solely on the organization established by the late master Hidetaka Nishiyama, the International Traditional Karate Federation (ITKF). Currently, Masao Kawasoe holds the 8th Dan and is part of the ITKF technical committee.
