Today, the Botswana National Association of Social Workers (BONASW) South Central Region under the leadership of Mr Cymon Moyo , in partnership with the University of Botswana Social work department & JoSpeaks, successfully hosted a 1-day Capacity Building Workshop at the JS Farm Conference facility.

A total of 56 Social workers attended the program, which focused on strengthening professional practice through sessions on assessment and report writing, substance abuse interventions, and self-care for Social workers.

The workshop provided a valuable platform for learning, networking, professional reflection, and skills enhancement as Social workers continue to respond to complex social challenges within our communities.

BONASW South Central Region extends sincere appreciation to JoSpeaks, all facilitators, participants, partners, and stakeholders who contributed towards the success of this important initiative.

Special appreciation also goes to all employers, councils, organizations, and institutions that released Social workers to attend the workshop. Your support towards continuous professional development plays a significant role in strengthening service delivery and empowering practitioners within the Social work profession.

Together, we continue building a stronger, more resilient and impactful Social work profession in Botswana.

We at the Botswana National Association of Social Workers (BONASW) join the nation in mourning the passing of Botswana’s Third President, Festus Gontebanye Mogae, a statesman whose leadership was deeply rooted in human dignity, social justice and the belief that true national development must leave no one behind. During his years of service, his commitment to fighting poverty, strengthening public health systems, expanding access to education, and responding boldly to the HIV/AIDS crisis reflected values that lie at the very heart of social work, which are service, empowerment, advocacy and the protection of vulnerable communities. His leadership reminded us that governance is not merely about economics or policy but about people, families and the collective wellbeing of a nation.

As social workers, we honor a leader who championed compassion with action, who understood that the strength of a country is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable. Though he has departed, his legacy continues to challenge us to serve with courage, lead with integrity and build a Botswana where justice, dignity and hope are realities for all.

Rest well, Rre Festus Gontebanye Mogae. Your service was leadership, and your leadership was humanity.
