Happy International Le***an Day! ✨

Today, we celebrate le****ns in all their diversity across identities, bodies, gender expressions, backgrounds, ages, abilities and lived experiences.

We celebrate those who are out and those who are not, those finding language for themselves, those who have always known, and those still discovering who they are. We celebrate le***an love, friendship, community, creativity, resistance and joy.

Being a le***an does not look one way. There is no single way to be, love or live as a le***an and every le***an deserves to exist, belong and thrive without fear, discrimination or violence.

Today and every day, we stand for a world where le****ns can live authentically, love freely and claim their love, dignity and equality.

FROM RIGHTS TO REALITY!

We’re excited to share the report from the 2026 High-Level Multi-Stakeholder Convening, which took place in May 2026 and brought together civil society, legal practitioners, human rights experts, government and other stakeholders to reflect on Botswana’s progress, the gaps that remain, and the work still ahead.

One message stood out: Legal victories are foundations, not destinations.

The discussions highlighted the need for stronger implementation and accountability, intersectional approaches to healthcare and justice, meaningful parliamentary engagement, and continued legal and policy reform.

We celebrate the resilience, courage and joy of LGBTIQ+ communities across Africa.

In Botswana, our Pride is rooted in generations of organising, resistance and hope, from the early work that led to LEGABIBO's legal registration to the landmark decriminalisation victory and the continued fight for equality, dignity and freedom.

We recognise how far we have come, while acknowledging the work that remains.

Pride is our history. Pride is our resistance. Pride is our joy. Pride is our future.

This African Pride Month, we celebrate q***r lives, stories and love, and continue building a Botswana where everyone can live with dignity, safety and freedom.

And as we look ahead, we look forward to the day when marriage equality becomes a reality in Botswana.

At our Self-Advocacy Training, participants shared lived experiences of human rights violations, explored step-by-step guidance on accessing inclusive services, and reflected on why knowing and understanding our rights matters.

Self-advocacy starts with knowledge and grows when we know how to speak up, seek support, and claim our rights. 💪🏾

It’s not only Members of Parliament who caucus!

On Saturday, 12 September, we came together to do some caucusing of our own to strengthen solidarity, reflect honestly, and find ways to collaborate and build a stronger movement for equality and justice. ✊🏾🏳️‍🌈

The journey towards equality, including marriage equality, requires each stakeholder to play their part. We are stronger when we work together than when we work in silos. Because this journey is ours together.

We’re not free until everyone is free. An injustice to one is an injustice to all.

And the work doesn’t stop here. The next key moment is 22–23 October, when the main arguments in the marriage equality case will be heard. But beyond the courtroom, beyond hearings and rulings, the movement continues. Because lasting change requires all of us showing up, speaking up, supporting one another, and building together.

The caucus is over. The work continues.

United Against Hate. Building Safer Communities. Living Free, Living Well.

Maun, you showed up! 🙌🏽✨

On 8 September, we came together for the Living Free, Living Well Community Town Hall under the theme “United Against Hate: Building Safer Communities for All.”

From meaningful conversations on safety, hate-motivated violence, GBV, public health, SRHR, wellbeing and marriage equality, to the soft launch of Mokgosi, the day reminded us that building safer communities takes all of us.

We learned. We spoke. We shared. We connected. And most importantly, we began turning ideas into action.

A heartfelt thank you to every community member, partner, service provider, institution, leader and ally who contributed to making this space possible. Your voices, courage and commitment continue to drive the work.

Together, we keep building communities where everyone can live free, live well, and live with dignity.
