The Botswana Council of Non Governmental Organizations ( BOCONGO ) is the national umbrella body for non-governmental organizations in Botswana. BOCONGO was officially registered in 1995 with the registrar of societies (Registration No. CR1957)

BOCONGO Objectives
1. To act as the coordinating body of NGOs in Botswana;
2. To strengthen indigenous NGOs to participate effectively in the policy fora in
Botswana and at an international level;
3. To assist in promoting and encouraging networking amongst NGOs with similar
goals and/or objectives so as to facilitate joint initiatives at solving problems;
4. To promote a culture of self-reliance and encourage committee participation from
NGO member and community;
5. To formulate a Code of Conduct for NGOs and monitor its implementation,
compliance and enforcement;
6. To support and reinforce the independence and autonomy of individual NGOs;
7. To assist in promoting the NGO sector as a channel for supplementing national
development efforts;
8. To advance gender sensitivity among NGOs in the country;
9. To promote public awareness of the activities and needs of indigenous
