𝗙𝗨𝗕, 𝗕𝗙𝗔 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗶𝗧 𝗧𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗨 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀

Footballers Union of Botswana (FUB), Botswana Football Association (BFA) and CRACKiT Tuition have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening educational support for footballers and helping them build a strong foundation for life beyond football.

The agreement marks another important milestone in FUB’s ongoing commitment to promoting education as a key pillar of footballers’ welfare and career development. It builds on previous partnerships with Botho University and the Rapid Skills Development Centre (RSDC), formerly the Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF), which have opened educational and skills-development opportunities for active and retired footballers.

Under the new partnership with CRACKiT Tuition, students attending junior international camps with the national teams, including the Zebras junior structures, will receive tutoring support from Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) level through to Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE).

The initiative recognises that football careers can be unpredictable and often relatively short. By supporting footballers’ education while they pursue their sporting careers, the partners aim to ensure that players are better prepared to transition into new careers and opportunities when their time on the pitch comes to an end.

FUB President Onalethata Tshekiso expressed his appreciation to the BFA for coming on board and supporting the initiative, highlighting the importance of collaboration in improving the lives and long-term prospects of footballers representing Botswana.

He said the partnership with CRACKiT Tuition represents more than academic support, it is an investment in the future of young footballers and in ensuring that representing the country does not come at the expense of their education.

The partnership further demonstrates the shared commitment of FUB and BFA to placing player welfare at the centre of football development, while creating opportunities for footballers to succeed both on and off the pitch.

Through this MoU, FUB, BFA and CRACKiT Tuition are taking another step towards building a football environment where sporting excellence and education go hand in hand and where every footballer is given a stronger foundation for life after football.

Footballers Union of Botswana, in partnership with the Rapid Skills Development Centre (RSDC), formerly the Construction Industry Trust Fund - citf, is proud to present The Next Chapter Cup Tournament; a celebration of a landmark partnership that is transforming the lives of Botswana's footballers.

This milestone initiative provides scholarship opportunities for both active and retired footballers, empowering them with rapid skills development courses that prepare them for meaningful careers and sustainable livelihoods beyond their playing days.

The tournament will take place at Royal Aria Stadium in Tlokweng, with free entry for all. Football fans, families, and the general public are warmly invited to attend and be part of this special occasion.

The event is proudly supported by Leeroy Systems, Tiro Connect, Bosele Social Club, and the Botswana Media Team, who have joined hands to champion the future of Botswana's footballers.

As part of the day's celebrations, FUB and RSDC will also honour graduates of the scholarship programme, proudly presenting certificates to footballers who have successfully completed their studies highlighting the power of education, skills development, and life after football.

Former Footballers Union of Botswana (FUB) Secretary General Kgosana Masaseng was presented with a Lifetime Achievement and Appreciation Award, as well as the HONORARY title of a Secretary General of the union, during his farewell ceremony held over the weekend, in what emerged as the highlight of the event.

The award was conferred by the FUB Board in recognition of Masaseng’s years of service and his contribution to the growth and development of the union, as well as his role in advancing the welfare and rights of footballers in Botswana.

During the ceremony, the honour was described as a symbolic gesture acknowledging the lasting impact of his leadership and commitment to strengthening player representation and welfare structures within the local game.

Tributes were delivered by family members, friends, football stakeholders, union members and invited guests, who reflected on Masaseng’s leadership. He was credited with strengthening the union’s operations and raising its profile both within Botswana and across the broader African football landscape.

Masaseng has since left the union after years of service, having taken up the position of Secretary General of FIFPRO Africa, marking a new chapter in his career in football administration.

Footballers Union of Botswana (FUB) has confirmed the appointment of Ms Unoda Pride Mahlaya as its substantive Secretary General, following her successful tenure in the role on an acting basis.

Mahlaya assumed the position after the former FUB Secretary General, Kgosana Masaseng, was appointed Secretary General of FIFPRO Africa, the continental division of the global players’ union. Her confirmation marks a new chapter for the organisation as it continues to strengthen its advocacy for the rights, welfare and professional development of footballers in Botswana.

With more than 11 years of experience in sports administration, Mahlaya brings a wealth of expertise in sports governance, organisational management, stakeholder engagement and player representation. During her time as Acting Secretary General, she oversaw the Union’s day-to-day operations, maintained key stakeholder relationships and continued the implementation of programmes aimed at improving the welfare and protection of footballers.

Her appointment comes as the Union continues to expand its legal support for players, strengthen partnerships with football stakeholders and institutions, and enhance education and safeguarding initiatives for its members.

Mahlaya has steadily built an impressive academic profile in sports management and governance. Her qualifications include a Diploma in Management of Olympic Sport Organisations from the Botswana National Olympic Committee (2025), the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sport Management through Nelson Mandela University (2023), and a Certificate in Sport Administration from the Botswana National Olympic Committee (2022).

She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management from Botswana Accountancy College (2018), a Certificate in Productivity Improvement for Decent Work and Sustainable Development awarded by the International Labour Organisation (2015), and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business Enterprise from the University of Derby (2014).

FUB said the appointment reflects its confidence in Mahlaya’s leadership, experience and commitment to advancing the interests of professional footballers. The Union believes her confirmation will provide continuity and strategic direction as it continues to advocate for improved working conditions, stronger governance and enhanced player welfare across Botswana’s football landscape.

As Secretary General, Mahlaya will be responsible for leading the Union’s administration, implementing its strategic objectives, strengthening engagement with football stakeholders and ensuring the continued protection and representation of players’ rights.

Her appointment follows the elevation of Masaseng to the position of Secretary General of FIFPRO Africa, a move widely regarded as recognition of Botswana’s growing contribution to football administration on the continent.
