MTF Mandate

MTF, a nonprofit making organization was established in 2001 as a national response to orphans’ situation in Botswana to complement Government and community initiatives in the care, support and protection of orphaned children. The mandate has since been extended to include other vulnerable children as per their varied needs. MTF’s delivery mechanism is largely through Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Faith Based Organizations (FBOs) spread across the country. MTF main function is to ensure protection of OVC rights and to advocate for equal rights, opportunities and privileges as any child in Botswana. Advocacy is very key to MTF especially as the Trust Fund is a member of a Regional Advocacy Network for Children (RANCH) which was launched on the 29th March 2012 in Johannesburg to function as a collective advocacy movement, composed of national child rights organizations in Southern African Region, working towards the progressive realization of children’s rights. MTF has experience in working with international organizations such as W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Olive Leaf Foundation and UNICEF.

Services under implementation include:

  • OVC education with a focus on access to post-secondary education

  • Child national registration, particularly OVC and children in squatter camps
