Youth for Christ Gaborone Youth for Christ Gaborone is part of a worldwide movement in 120 countries--reaching youth for Christ Youth for Christ is a volunteer-driven ministry.

Youth for Christ Gaborone is a branch of Youth for Christ Botswana (YFCB), which is based in Mochudi. Youth for Christ International is a worldwide movement that started in 1944 and has now spread to 120+ countries! Youth for Christ is not a church, but an international, inter-denominational movement of youth that works alongside churches to reach and disciple youth. If a volunteer has a burden an

d commitment to start a ministry within Youth for Christ, they are encouraged to do so. In this way, we can expand to reach more youth in more ways. YFC's motto is "Geared to the times, Anchored to the Rock"--we are anchored to the truth of the gospel, but the way we present it to reach youth changes to be relevant with the current day and culture. Today we in YFC Gaborone had the privilege for the 15th year to have a Month of Youth Against AIDS discussion on Yarona FM.

We shared some of the latest statistics on the HIV/AIDS epidemic here in Botswana. Here are some of the key ones from UNAIDS for 2024 in Botswana:

Estimated number of people living with HIV = 360,000
Estimated number of people newly infected with HIV = 4200
Estimated number of deaths due to HIV = 3800
Estimated adult (15-49) HIV prevalence (%) = 15.7%
Estimated number of AIDS orphans (0-17 year olds who have lost one or both parents to AIDS during their lifetime) = 52,000

To give a comparison, according to Worldometer, Botswana recorded 2801 deaths from COVID from 2020-2024, and yet in just one year (2024), Botswana lost 3800 to AIDS. Each year we are losing such a high number.

According to World Population Review, Botswana has the 4th highest HIV prevalence rate in the world.

So how can Batswana youth fight against HIV/AIDS? One key way is to abstain until marriage and then to be faithful in marriage. It is possible, and it is worth it. For your health, your emotional wellbeing, your children, your nation. Youth can be the Change Agents -- to see Botswana overcome HIV/AIDS. That is our hope.

Neo shared a poem "I Hope" that she wrote in 2009, and it is still relevant now. Let's together make this hope a reality.
