PROJECT UPDATE

As part of the inception phase of its European Union-funded ,"Integrating Grassroots Community into Biowaste Circular Economy Opportunities to Strengthen Resilience and Amplify Policy Influence through BSF Based Waste Valorization project," the Botswana Climate Change Network (BCCN) recently conducted stakeholder consultations in Sikwane, Mookane, Palapye, Mosetse, Dukwi, Manxotai, and Sehithwa.

The engagements brought together schools and community stakeholders to explore opportunities for establishing innovation hubs that will test technologies capable of transforming organic waste into valuable products such as organic fertilizers and livestock feed. Discussions also focused on assessing the amount of organic waste generated by schools and its potential for value addition.

BCCN further engaged village leadership, Social and Community Development officers, and Village Development Committees to share the project's objectives, scope, and expected benefits, while strengthening collaboration and support for successful implementation.

These consultations mark an important step towards building community-driven circular economy solutions that promote sustainable waste management, climate resilience, and green livelihood opportunities.

We launched our new project focused on integrating grassroots communities into biowaste circular economy opportunities.

But what exactly is a biowaste circular economy, and why does it matter?

As Botswana continues to face growing waste management challenges, innovative approaches that transform waste into valuable resources are becoming increasingly important. A biowaste circular economy offers an opportunity to rethink how we manage organic waste while creating environmental, social, and economic benefits.
