WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUNG PEOPLE ARE GIVEN SPACE TO QUESTION, CHALLENGE AND REIMAGINE?

At Change the Current, BCCN's Palapye Green Team stepped into the space as facilitators of conversations on intergenerational solidarity.

The Youth Climate Justice Lab brought together BIUST students to explore climate change through three interconnected lenses: water justice, gender justice and intergenerational solidarity.

The conversations went beyond “What is the problem?”

Participants were challenged to ask:

Who is affected?
What keeps the problem in place?
What would we change?
And what can we do first?

Working in groups, they identified climate and environmental challenges relevant to Botswana, developed practical solutions and considered who needs to be part of making those solutions possible.

For BCCN, the Palapye Green Team’s role reflects something important: climate action is not only about having conversations it is also about creating spaces where young people can shape those conversations and help move them forward.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: LEARN, MAP, ACT! 🌍

Are you a young person in Botswana passionate about climate action and digital mapping? This is your chance to lead change in your community!

The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), in collaboration with UNICEF YOMA and the Botswana Climate Change Network, is launching a hybrid Youth Climate Mapping Fellowship.

What your group gets:
-US $400 Grant to cover mapping and community data collection costs.
-Free access to self-paced online courses (Introduction to Open Mapping for Climate Action and ChatMap for Field Mapping).
-Verifiable digital credentials via the Yoma platform.Practical experience in mapping climate risks and driving local climate advocacy.

👥 Who can apply?
-Youth groups and OpenStreetMap (OSM) communities based in Botswana.
-Members must be aged 15–24 (each group consists of 20 participants).
-No prior mapping experience is required!Adolescent girls and young women are especially encouraged to apply

The newly released 2026 Botswana National Ecosystem Assessment (BW-NEA) provides the country’s first comprehensive, evidence-based look at the condition of our natural environment.

While climate change is hitting our ecosystems hard, it isn't acting alone. Human demands and environmental shifts are combining to place unprecedented pressure on our resources, but the impact isn't the same everywhere.

As a GCF Accredited Observer Organisation, BCCN values platforms that strengthen understanding of climate finance and support collaborative action towards achieving Botswana's environmental commitments.

Day 2 of the TNFD Training Workshop focused on translating commitments into action through sustainable finance. Participants explored Botswana's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Framework, identified practical actions to support the implementation of the Rio Conventions, and examined financing opportunities through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The workshop also provided a valuable platform to engage with stakeholders from government, development partners, financial institutions and the private sector, reinforcing the importance of innovative financing and strategic partnerships in advancing climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
