BOTSWANA'S ECOSYSTEMS ARE AT A CRITICAL CROSSROADS

The newly released 2026 Botswana National Ecosystem Assessment (BW-NEA) provides the country’s first comprehensive, evidence-based look at the condition of our natural environment.

While climate change is hitting our ecosystems hard, it isn't acting alone. Human demands and environmental shifts are combining to place unprecedented pressure on our resources, but the impact isn't the same everywhere.

How are different ecosystems coping? Why does this matter for our daily lives? And most importantly, what practical actions can we take right now to protect them?

As a GCF Accredited Observer Organisation, BCCN values platforms that strengthen understanding of climate finance and support collaborative action towards achieving Botswana's environmental commitments.

Day 2 of the TNFD Training Workshop focused on translating commitments into action through sustainable finance. Participants explored Botswana's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Framework, identified practical actions to support the implementation of the Rio Conventions, and examined financing opportunities through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The workshop also provided a valuable platform to engage with stakeholders from government, development partners, financial institutions and the private sector, reinforcing the importance of innovative financing and strategic partnerships in advancing climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

Day 1 Highlights | Rio Conventions & Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Training Workshop

BCCN participated in the first day of the Rio Conventions and Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Training Workshop, hosted by UNDP Botswana through the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.

Discussions highlighted the importance of integrating biodiversity conservation, climate action and sustainable land management into financial decision-making, while emphasizing that achieving Botswana's environmental goals requires strong partnerships and innovative financing solutions.

As an organization committed to advancing climate action and sustainable development, BCCN values platforms that foster collaboration, knowledge sharing and collective action towards a resilient and nature-positive future.

BCCN is proud to be represented at the Regional Ecofeminist Convening taking place in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 6–10 July 2026.

The convening brings together changemakers, activists, researchers, and community leaders from across Africa to explore ecofeminist approaches that strengthen climate resilience, promote gender justice, and advance inclusive just transitions.

Through dialogue, shared learning, and collaboration, our representative is engaging with fellow participants to exchange experiences, build regional solidarity, and explore innovative solutions that place communities, care, and environmental justice at the centre of climate action.
