Statistics show that one in four women have experienced domestic abuse since the age of 16
This therefore calls for us to be empowered and aware of the signs of an abusive relationship for prevention sake.
An abusive relationship can be emotional, physical, or verbal. Here are some common indicators:
1. **Physical Abuse**: Hitting, slapping, pushing, choking, or any other form of physical harm.
2. **Verbal or Emotional Abuse**: Constant belittling, name-calling, humiliation, or manipulation. It can also include gaslighting, making you question your perception of reality.
3. **Control and Manipulation**: Your partner might try to control who you see, what you do, or where you go. This can include isolating you from friends and family.
4. **Jealousy and Possessiveness**: Extreme jealousy or accusations of cheating without cause, along with controlling behavior tied to this jealousy.
5. **Threats**: Threatening harm to you, your loved ones, or themselves if you don’t comply with their demands or if you try to leave.
6. **Intimidation**: Using fear to control you, such as breaking things, using aggressive gestures, or threatening with weapons.
7. **Blame-shifting**: They refuse to take responsibility for their actions and often blame you for their behavior or the problems in the relationship.
8. **Unpredictability**: Extreme mood swings or behavior that makes you feel like you’re constantly walking on eggshells.
9. **Lack of respect for boundaries**: Disregarding your personal space, privacy, or decisions, and crossing boundaries repeatedly.
10. **Gaslighting**: They manipulate you into doubting your own reality, making you feel confused or questioning your sanity.
Therefore moving into the month of Love, February bearing in mind that women and girls most experience abuse in relationships we must be equipped with knowledge to spot these signs and leave before it is too late🥺...
