John Chibadura (1957-1999) was a Zimbabwean musician born John Nyamukokoko. He lost his mother at age 5 and had a tumultuous childhood, relocating between relatives' homes. He dropped out of school and worked as a shepherd, driver, and lorry driver.
Chibadura began playing the electric guitar and earned the nickname "Chibadura" (best guitarist). In 1980, he moved to Harare and joined The Holy Brothers, later teaming up with Tineyi Chikupo and others to form The Mverechena Band, then The Sungura Boys. He eventually formed The Tembo Brothers in 1983 or 1985.
Chibadura's music blended sungura, jit, rhumba, and reggae. The Tembo Brothers gained international recognition, touring the UK twice and performing on BBC Radio 1. They were also popular in Mozambique, where Chibadura was treated as a local hero.
