Congratulations to Rre Nametso Clifford Mokgophe for being nominated as an ordinary member of the new Executive Board (2025-2028) of the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Natural History of the International Council of Museums - ICOM NATHIST.

Rre Lebandura Cliff Mokgophe is a Chief Curator of Natural History at the Botswana National Museum where he is responsible for the management of natural history collections (including Herbarium collections), and the National Botanical garden.

In addition to his recent appointment in the NATHIST committee, rre Mokgophe is the Secretary of the National Taxonomy Committee for Botswana and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Phuthadikobo Museum.

Rre Mokgophe has undertaken amongst others preliminary research on the Biomass of the Okavango Delta, which contributed to the development of the first Okavango Delta Management Plan (ODMP) as well as on the ecology of temporary saline pools of the Makgadikgadi salt pans to assess the egg bank and hatching dynamics of eggs of fairy shrimps (Anostraca) which are the primary food for the breeding migratory flamingo populations.

He aspires to be a leader in biodiversity conservation through research and public education for the deployment of sustainable practices in Botswana, Africa, and the world.

Highlights from ICOM Dubai 2025๐Ÿ“Œ๐ŸŒŸ

Congratulations to distinguished grantees of ICOM Dubai, Goabaone Montsho - an individual member from Botswana National Museum, and Puleng Johnson - an istitutional member from Philately Museum. The two were selected by the ICOM Strategic Allocation Review Committee to participate in the ICOM General Conference in Dubai.

Their inclusion reflects both individual merit and institutional excellence, and underscores Botswana's growing presence in global museum discourse.
