🇧🇼 HAPPY 60TH INDEPENDENCE DAY, BOTSWANA! 🇧🇼

Today we celebrate 60 years of independence, our beautiful country, our people, our communities, and everything that makes Botswana home. 💙🖤🤍

At Animal Assist Trust Foundation Botswana, our small part in that community is caring for the animals who share this country with us. Through rescue, rehabilitation, sterilisation, protection, and rehoming, we strive to make Botswana a kinder place for every life.

May we continue building a nation where compassion extends to all living beings, big or small, regardless of species or circumstance. 🐾

Today we celebrate our country, our people, our wildlife, our domestic animals, and the home we all share.

As Botswana marks this historic diamond jubilee, may the next 60 years bring continued strength, unity, prosperity, and compassion for every life that calls Botswana home.

💜 CAT OF THE WEEK – LITTLE MISS 💜
Meet Little Miss. Small name, BIG personality.

She’s sassy, funny, confident and comes with a healthy dose of that famous TORTITUDE! 💜 She knows exactly what she wants and generally expects the humans around her to work it out. 😂

Little Miss came to us as the tiny baby you can see in her photo, and just look at her now!

Just one thing missing - a home of her own.

She has feline friends, plenty of confidence and enough personality to make sure life with Little Miss will never be boring.

💜 Knowing your limits is also part of loving animals.

It often starts with kindness. You begin feeding one or two cats or dogs because you cannot bear to see them hungry. You give them food, water and somewhere safe to stay. But if they are not sterilised, one litter can quickly become another... and another. Before long, there may be more animals than one person can realistically afford or properly care for.

Food and water are important, but they are not enough. Animals also need sterilisation, vaccinations, deworming and parasite control, veterinary treatment when they are sick or injured, adequate space and hygiene, and individual attention.

As numbers grow, money and resources become stretched. Veterinary care gets postponed. Living conditions can deteriorate. Illness or injury may be missed. Related animals may breed with each other, and the cycle continues.

And there is another question we all need to ask: What happens to these animals if you are no longer there? People move. Circumstances change. People become ill, experience financial hardship or simply reach a point where they can no longer cope. Without a plan, many unsterilised animals can suddenly be left behind with nobody able to take responsibility for them.

These situations often begin with genuine compassion and the very best intentions. The important thing is recognising when the number of animals has become more than one person can properly manage — and reaching out for help before their welfare begins to suffer.

💜 Sterilise. Provide proper care. Know your limits. Ask for help.

If you are becoming overwhelmed, please reach out to a rescue organisation, veterinarian, family member or friend for support. Recognising the signs early can help break the cycle. 🐾
