🌈 RAINBOW BRIDGE REMEMBRANCE DAY 🌈

Today, 28 August, we remember the beloved animals who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🐾

The ones who shared our homes, filled our lives with love, made us laugh, left paw prints across our floors - and eventually, across our hearts.

Today we invite you to light a candle in their memory and share their name with us.

🐾LADY🐾 has found her forever home💜

Once abandoned and left to fend for herself… Lady is now home, loved and living her very best life! ️

A huge thank you to her wonderful foster mom for giving her the love and care she needed, and to her beautiful new family for choosing adoption.

These are the happy endings we live for.

🥶 COLD WEATHER IS HERE

If you're keeping warm indoors, remember the animals too.

The Botswana Department of Meteorological Services has advised that unusually cold weather is affecting much of the country. While we can put on another jersey, light a fire or climb under a warm blanket, many animals don't have that choice.

Exposure to cold can kill – especially for the most vulnerable.

Please spare a few moments this week to check on the animals that depend on us.

-> Mothers & Babies
Nursing mothers use enormous amounts of energy feeding their babies. Make sure they have a warm, dry nesting area, plenty of food and fresh water.

-> Puppies & Kittens
Very young puppies and kittens cannot regulate their own body temperature. Warm bedding and protection from wind, rain and cold nights can save their lives.

-> Senior, Sick & Injured Animals
Older animals and those recovering from illness struggle to stay warm. A dry bed, shelter and a little extra care can make all the difference.

-> Outdoor Dogs
If you can bring them inside during the cold weather, please do. If that's not possible, ensure they have a dry, sheltered sleeping area out of the wind, with warm bedding, fresh water and enough food.

-> Livestock & Poultry
Protect young animals where possible, provide shelter from cold winds, ensure access to fresh water, and remember that animals use more energy to stay warm during cold weather.

-> Stray Animals
A simple act of kindness can save a life. Put out fresh water, offer food if you can, or place an old box or sheltered area with a blanket where a stray can escape the wind.

❄️ Remember:
If you are cold... they are too.

A little compassion can save a life.

🐾 AATFB DOG WALK CLUB IS BACK! 🐾

Looking for a safe, enjoyable way to exercise your dog while meeting other dog lovers?

Join the Animal Assist Trust Foundation Botswana Dog Walk Club for a relaxed 3–5 km group walk, where well-socialised dogs (and their humans!) can enjoy the outdoors together.

💜 Donation: P20 per walker (human or dog)

Every p**a helps support the rescue, rehabilitation and care of the animals at Animal Assist Trust Foundation Botswana.

Please bring:
🐾 Your dog's up-to-date vaccination card
🐾 A lead and/or harness
🐾 A friendly, well-socialised dog (or simply yourself if you'd like to join the walk!)

Refreshments and treats will be available for purchase after the walk, so please bring some cash.

🐾💜 AATFB DOG WALK CLUB RECAP - 13 June 2026 💜🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our June Dog Walk Club, proudly hosted by Animal Assist Trust Foundation Botswana and Matshwane Vet Clinic.

It was wonderful to see animal lovers, friends, families, and their dogs come together to enjoy the outdoors, make new friends, and support animal welfare in our community.

A special thank you to the volunteers who spent time walking some of our rescue dogs, giving them valuable exercise, socialisation, and plenty of love. 💜

We would also like to thank everyone who participated in our monthly litter pick-up along the route. Every piece of litter removed helps make our community cleaner and safer for both people and animals. 🌍💚

Thank you for being part of another successful Dog Walk Club. We look forward to seeing you and your four-legged friends again next month! 🐾💜

🐾💜 I See the Beauty: A Reflection by LP 💜🐾

You see a cat with three legs.
I see a survivor.

You see a puppy with a deformed leg.
I see a puppy who still wants to run, play, love, and be loved.

You see a blind cat.
I see courage, trust, and a life still worth living.

You see a dog with one eye.
I see everything that remains.

You see a tiny neonatal kitten.
You say it is too small, too weak, that it may not survive.
I see a tiny soul worth fighting for.

You see a dog that is too skinny.
I see a dog who has simply not had enough meals yet.

You see an animal that is old.
I see a heart that still has love to give.

You see scars.
I see survival.

You see broken.
I see healing.
💜

That is the difference.

The world often sees what happened to an animal.
Rescuers see who they are.

At Animal Assist BW, we have never looked for perfect animals.

We look for the overlooked.
The unwanted.
The forgotten.
The ones others walk past.

Because time and time again they teach us the same truth:
A missing leg does not stop happiness.
A missing eye does not stop love.
A difficult past does not define a life.
Being imperfect does not make an animal less deserving.

Some found loving homes.
Some remained in foster care.
Some crossed the Rainbow Bridge far too soon.
Yet every one of them mattered.

Because their worth was never dependent on whether they recovered.
Their worth was never dependent on whether they were beautiful.
Their worth was never dependent on whether they were adopted.
Their worth was always there.

So when you look at an animal, don't just see what is missing.
See what remains.
See their courage.
See their resilience.
See their spirit.
See their beauty.
And most importantly...
✨ See their worth. ✨

Because we do not rescue perfection.

🐾🥫 EMPTY 400g TIN DONATIONS NEEDED 🥫🐾

Animal Assist is looking for donations of clean, empty 400g/410g canned food tins to help us store and freeze wet food portions for our foster animals. 💜

If you use canned vegetables, beans, sweetcorn, tomato products, pet food, or similar items in 400g/410g tins, please consider saving the tins for us instead of throwing them away.

✅ Clean and washed
✅ Labels removed if possible
✅ 400g/410g tins preferred
❌ No sharp or damaged tins

If you are able to help, please keep your empty tins aside and drop them off at:

These tins are reused to portion and freeze wet food for the many animals currently in our care, helping us reduce waste and make every donation go a little further.
