This is a day, observed every year on December 1st, to afford all of us, a moment to pause, reflect and re-affirm our collective commitment to ending the HIV and AIDS epidemic, as a public health threat by the year 2030. It is a day for remembrance, for raising awareness and calling for action that honours the dignity and human rights of all individuals, especially those who have lost their precious lives to AIDS, and the living, but affected by the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

Letloa and CTB&LCB are a consortium and the two organizations provides and promote integrated community HIV/AIDS and (Tuberculosis) TB services, using community, client-centered strategies. This collaborative approach provides health education to empower individuals and families in bridging the knowledge gap, facilitate contact tracing, and promote linkage of defaulters to health facilities for antiretroviral therapy (ART) and TB patients ensuring they are retained and adherence to treatment. The organizations collaborate closely with DHMTs, DAC office, Health Facilities and community leaders in Okavango and Ghanzi districts.

Today, we gather to observe the World TB Day, which is usually commemorate on the 24th March every year; a day that reminds us of the relentless battle we continue to fight against tuberculosis. This day follows the discovery of the bacteria that causes TB in 1882 by Robert Koch a German scientist. We pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to TB, and stand in solidarity with those who today live with and fight against it.

As we mark this occasion, we take a moment to reflect on the lives lost to this devastating disease. We remember the men, women, and children who fought courageously, enduring pain and suffering in silence, yet holding on to hope. To the families who have lost loved ones, we extend our deepest sympathies.

Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver". This theme is not just a slogan but a call to action for all of us. Ending TB requires a collective effort from every individual, community, healthcare worker, and government institution.

Launching the Botswana TB Caucus is essential to strengthen political commitment to the TB response and ensure the goal of ending TB by 2030 is achieved. The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health now has the opportunity to ensure TB receives the necessary attention on the parliamentary agenda. Botswana's efforts to establish this caucus align with over 150 other countries that have launched similar initiatives, championing the fight against TB through enhanced political commitment. Effective implementation of the new National TB Strategy requires robust government stewardship, high-level political commitment, and enhanced resources. The establishment of the Botswana TB Caucus is a strategic initiative aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges currently hampering the country's efforts to combat tuberculosis. The TB Caucus will leverage political commitment, foster collaboration, and mobilize resources to enhance the effectiveness of Botswana's TB response.
