Orange Summer Challenge 2026: Team Check-In

Today, our four Orange Summer Challenge teams came together at the Orange Digital Center for a check-in as they move ahead building their solutions.

This year's theme, "AI as a Business Accelerator," carries a different weight. Rather than building for the open market alone, our teams are prioritising the build of services with a clear path to offtake by Orange Botswana itself. Real problems, inside the business, solved with AI.

Over the past few weeks, reKwano, Co.nect, Leseding AI Engine, and Kalon AI Platform have been training with Meta, NVIDIA, Canva, and AWS, sharpening both the technical build and the business case behind it.

Importantly, today gave the teams a chance to engage directly with experts from across Orange Botswana, insight on project structuring and delivery, on the technical approach to building for success, and on what it takes to integrate and launch on our platforms. Real feedback, from inside the business they're building for.

Four teams, building with purpose.

Rubber Ducky Thursday, Debug Night No. 01, is officially in the books.

Thank you to everyone who came through to Orange Digital Center yesterday and made the inaugural session one to remember. The room brought together experienced developers, GDG community builders, university students and first-timers getting their first real look at the world of programming, ODC programme alumni, professionals and entrepreneurs, all in one space, working through real problems together.

Our guest speaker from the community led a live debugging session that turned into exactly what we hoped for: honest conversation, sharp questions, and the kind of learning that only happens when people talk through a problem out loud.

Grateful to GDG Gaborone for the partnership, and to everyone who showed up ready to learn, share, and debug together.

Looking forward to more Debug Days & Nights as we build community

Botswana's next generation of innovators showed up at the New Era 6th Annual National STEM Hackathon.

2 days at New Era College. Young minds prototyping, coding, and building solutions to real challenges under Vision 2036's pillars, with Orange Digital Center on the ground exhibiting, engaging, mentoring, and learning alongside them.

We also brought to the conversation: what it means to be a good digital citizen, healthy screen time, and standing against cyberbullying.

Grateful to partners furthering STEM education, and to New Era College for having us.

More than a day of fun. A day of impact.

Through our For Good Connections initiative, we brought together 100 children from four schools in Francistown for a day of learning, play, sport, motivation and meaningful conversations.

Together with Ikhutseng Primary School, Mahube Primary School, Setlalekgosi CJSS and Selolwe CJSS, we created a space for young people to engage with important conversations around digital safety, cyberbullying and building healthier digital habits. Because creating a safer digital future means more than simply providing access. It means equipping the next generation with the knowledge, confidence and support to navigate the digital world responsibly.

A big thank you to our partner Propellers Sports Academy, and to John Mackenzie Primary School for hosting us and helping make this meaningful day possible.

Here’s to empowering young people, creating safer digital spaces and building connections for good. 🧡
