👀 Have you been looking for a space to connect with other young people and get involved in biodiversity conservation?

Well… this is your sign.🌿🇧🇼

Membership for the Botswana Youth Biodiversity Network (BYBN) is now open!🎉

Bring your experiences, your ideas, your questions, your curiosity and your perspective. Come ready to learn from others, share what you know, connect and contribute.

We want young people from different backgrounds and communities bringing their voices, experiences and knowledge to the table — because young people have a role to play in shaping the future of biodiversity conservation in Botswana.

Botswana has a long and important conservation journey behind it. Now, we have an opportunity to contribute to what comes next: building on what has worked, learning from what hasn’t, and working together towards even stronger biodiversity conservation outcomes.

Through the network, we’ll have opportunities to connect, learn, collaborate and turn ideas into action for biodiversity conservation in Botswana.

🌍 Why does biodiversity loss continue even when we know what’s at stake?

The Transformative Change Assessment points to five systemic barriers – overlapping challenges that demand collective agency, with diverse actors working together to implement solutions across sectors and scales. 🤝

Understanding these barriers is crucial because transformative change does not happen by accident. It calls for rethinking how societies value nature, who gets a seat at the table and how incentives are designed to serve both people and ecosystems.

WILDLIFE OFFICIALS PROBE MASS DEATH OF VULTURES INCIDENT AT PHUDUHUDU

Authorities have confirmed the death of 30 vultures after the birds fed on a zebra carcass at Phuduhudu village, situated between Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pan National Parks.

Park Manager for Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pan National Parks, Modiri Mogopa, says 30 vultures were found dead at the scene while two others were still alive.

Mogopa says preliminary findings suggest the birds may have died from poisoning after feeding on the zebra carcass. However, he says investigations are still ongoing to establish exactly what happened and determine the full extent of the incident.

The suspected poisoning has raised concern among conservationists, as vultures are a vital part of the ecosystem, helping to dispose of carcasses and prevent the spread of diseases.

Wildlife authorities are expected to conduct further investigations as efforts continue to determine the cause of the deaths.
