Lephoi Learners Making Their Mark!

We are proud to celebrate the recent achievements of our learners, who continue to grow academically and as young leaders.

πŸ“š Spelling Bee Champions!
In collaboration with Selolwe Hill Junior School, our learners showcased their brilliance at a Spelling Bee Competition, taking home the top prizes:
πŸ₯‡ 1st Place
πŸ₯ˆ 2nd Place
πŸ₯‰ 3rd Place

Their success reflects dedication, teamwork, and the power of inclusion. To support their journey, the Centre prepared practice words in braille, ensuring every learner had the chance to shine. πŸ‘πŸ’™

πŸ—£οΈ Lobbying & Advocacy Workshop
Some of our learners also attended a Lobbying and Advocacy Workshop hosted by BABPS in Gaborone. This experience equipped them with the skills to voice their challenges and advocate for their needs within schools and communities. We are excited to see the positive change their voices will bring! 🌍✊

Step by step, cane by cane, confident paths are being built!!

From May 23rd to 25th, Lephoi Centre successfully conducted Phase 1 of the Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Training, where 20 learners were equipped with white canes and empowered with crucial skills for safe, independent movement.

The training was a collaborative effort between Lephoi Centre’s TOTS (Trainers of Trainers), the BABPS Coordinator, and VI Specialist Teachers from Phatlhogo Primary School and Selolwe Hill Junior Secondary School. Their collective expertise created an engaging and practical learning experience tailored to the unique needs of the learners.

As part of the training, learners were also taught how to safely cross the road using their white canesβ€”a vital life skill that fosters both safety and self-reliance.

This initiative is a direct extension of Lephoi Centre’s mission and mandate to empower children with visual impairments through inclusive, skills-based support that promotes independence and dignity.

Phase 2 of the training will soon follow for the remaining 23 learners.

THE CENTRE SHUTS DOWN FOR 2024

The Centre has officially paused services and normal operations for the year 2024. The shut down was marked by the spirit of love and goodness presented by staff members as they exchanged gifts and goodies.

The gift were all accompanied by messages of goodwill from colleagues. As this was not enough the Welness Committee organised a vibrant staff party held at Heavenly Gardens along Francistown - Matshelagabedi road.

The workers had great joyfilled time and freshed up before going back to the villages to celebrate Christmas and New Year holidays with their friends and families.

NB: The Lephoi Centre for the Blind wishes its stakeholders, donors, friends and general well wishers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.

We thank you and value all efforts you continue to make, let's meet again next year!

ACCESS BANK DONATES KITCHEN UTENSILS

The Centre 's kitchen department was on the 06th December 2024 previlledged to get equipment face lift curtesy of Access Bank, Francistown Branch.

This gesture resembles implementation of the needs assessment exercise (NAE) recommendations carried out by the bank delegation in July 2024. The Branch Manager explained that the employees had to dig from their own pockets in order to fulfill their Corporate Social Investment mission which emphasises on DIRECT IMPACT on the community in which the Bank operates. She highlighted that they chose long term quality equipment that most will be used for the children's COOKERY PROGRAM which is meant to enhance cooking skills and general kitchen manners towards our children.

Appreciating the donations the Chairperson of the Finance Committee applauded the staff at Access Bank for their generous support and their eagerness to see blind children being independent in Activities for Daily Living. She explained that though the programs are still under resourced the Centre continues to thrive by way of banking on its experienced personnel who are directly employed for other specific functions.
