Better Business Bhutan The first Better Business Summit took place in Thumphu, Bhutan from 26-28 March 2014 Sessions will cover a wide range of issues as per the table below.

Overview:

The Better Business Summit is the first formal event that brings together thought leaders from business, government and international organisations to explore how Bhutan’s economy can provide the jobs growth and stability required for the next generation. Through a unique multi-stakeholder platform, the Summit will present an unrivalled opportunity to understand and shape Bhutan’s growi

ng economy and democratic process. Additionally, as Bhutan launches its 11th Five Year Plan, Economic Stimulus Plan and Business Opportunity and Information Center, the Summit will have a critical role in exploring how the aspirations for the expansion of key business sectors, increased entrepreneurship, and a green economy and will become a reality. In this regard, the Summit will provide value not only to leaders from Bhutan, but also to those who see Bhutan as a potential important investment opportunity. Partners & Stakeholders:

The management of the Summit will be administered by three main partners: Druk Holding and Investments, the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Royal Government of Bhutan. In advance of the Summit, a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee is guiding the development of the Summit. Steering Committee members represent the Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC), the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA), the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) and Druk Holding & Investments (DHI). In addition, the success of the Summit will rely on solid engagement from a wide range of business, government ministries, civil society organisations, as well as world class experts who are looking to invest their time, knowledge or finances in Bhutan’s future. Outcomes:

The Summit will be successful through shifting the mindsets of leaders in business and government to recognize the importance of collaboration to advance economic and social prosperity. A comprehensive report will capture the nature of the discussions as well as the commitments made by government and business over the course of the Summit. In addition, stakeholders and partners will benefit in the following ways:
- Government officials will collaborate with business leaders and experts in workshops and technical sessions to explore valuable ideas and gain support on revisions to the Companies Act, reforms to other policies and the implementation of the 11th 5 year plan, in particular as it relates to the economy, entrepreneurship and green growth.
- Business leaders will have an opportunity to understand better the objectives of government policies and interact with senior public figures to share their views in an honest dialogue. Moderated input and honest engagement from business will help improve the enabling environment in which business operates, while bringing a better understanding to business strategies and activities. Discussion Themes:

The Summit will run for 2 ½ days, comprising a mix of facilitated workshops, panel discussions and televised debates. The theme for the first Better Business Summit will be “A Better Climate for Business”, focusing on 3 interlinked pillars: Accelerating Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Employment, and The Green Economy.
