The Bhutan Youth Development Fund

The Bhutan Youth Development Fund "A better today, a brighter tomorrow for the youth of Bhutan" An estimated 56 percent of the population in Bhutan are youth below the age of 25.

With a special focus on disadvantaged youth, the Bhutan Youth Development Fund (YDF) enables Bhutanese youth to realize their full potential as productive citizens and leaders. The Bhutan Youth Development Fund is a senior member of civil society, founded in 1999 by His Majesty the Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. YDF is known as an advocate for disability rights, substance abuse prevention and

treatment, child rights and protection, educational equity, employment, and other important issues impacting youth. Under the leadership of the President, Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Tseyring Pem Wangchuck, the Bhutan YDF provides financial and program support for youth development activities like leadership and volunteerism, drug rehabilitation, special education, livelihood development skills and vocational training, and advocacy for youth-oriented policy.

To mark ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ, the Bhutan Youth Development Fund brought the transformative ๐ˆ๐Œ๐€๐†๐ˆ๐๐„ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž at YDF hall, engaging 31 students from Classes VI & VII of Nazhoen Pelri School (NPS)!

The morning started with a welcome and introduction by Mr. Pema Wangdi (YDF), setting an energetic tone for an impactful session filled with brain-breaking activities and hands-on roleplays. The students then dove into "๐“๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐ข๐ซ๐ซ๐จ๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐…๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ," facilitated by ๐‘บ๐’๐’๐’‚๐’Ž ๐’€๐’‚๐’๐’ˆ๐’…๐’†๐’ (๐’€๐‘ซ๐‘ญ ๐‘ผ๐‘พ๐‘ช ๐‘บ๐’„๐’‰๐’๐’๐’‚๐’“๐’”๐’‰๐’Š๐’‘ ๐‘น๐’†๐’„๐’Š๐’‘๐’Š๐’†๐’๐’• & ๐‘ผ๐‘พ๐‘ช ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’‚๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐‘บ๐’•๐’–๐’…๐’†๐’๐’•), exploring empathy, perspective, and global realities. This was followed by an insightful module titled "๐–๐ก๐จ ๐š๐ฆ ๐ˆ ๐›๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ ?" led by ๐‘ฒ๐’Š๐’๐’๐’†๐’š ๐’๐’‚๐’Ž (๐’€๐‘ซ๐‘ญ ๐‘บ๐’„๐’‰๐’๐’๐’‚๐’“๐’”๐’‰๐’Š๐’‘ ๐‘น๐’†๐’„๐’Š๐’‘๐’Š๐’†๐’๐’• & ๐‘น๐‘ป๐‘ช ๐‘ฎ๐’“๐’‚๐’…๐’–๐’‚๐’•๐’†), encouraging the young participants to reflect on their personal growth, values, and choices.

The highlight of the morning was a special address by ๐’๐ข๐ซ ๐Œ๐ข๐œ๐ก๐š๐ž๐ฅ ๐‘๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐, who left our little sparks inspired, grounded, and motivated to value their time and lead with purpose. He also talked about living in harmony using music as an example. A single musical note, no matter how beautiful, can only create one sound. It may be pleasant, but by itself it cannot create a melody, a rhythm or a complete piece of music. It is when different notes come togetherโ€”each with its own character, pitch and placeโ€”that music begins to emerge.

Through experiential learning and peer mentorship, the session served as a powerful celebration of youth potential. Together, we remain committed to engaging our students in meaningful reflection, cultivating self-awareness, and driving youth empowerment across Bhutan! ๐Ÿ’ก๐ŸŒฑ

Tenzin is a recipient of the prestigious Jigme Singye Wangchuck Scholarship, launched by BYDF this year in honor of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpoโ€™s 70th Birth Anniversary.
