Save the Children Bhutan Save the Children is the world’s largest independent international NGO for children. Save the Children completed 31 years of programming in Bhutan in 2013.

Following a mutual agreement with the Royal Government of Bhutan, Save the Children USA – Bhutan Program was established in 1982, as an initiative to aid and assist the children and community in Edi in Zhemgang. What began as a one-community program with the establishment of a pre-school, a health post, an 18 km mule track, a community centre, a suspension bridge, safe drinking water supply and ir

rigation canals in Edi in 1982, has today, culminated into being a national partner for the Royal Government of Bhutan, providing financial support and technical assistance to relevant government sectors, local NGOs and other partners, in providing services to the children in Bhutan. Save the Children International formally registered in Bhutan from 1st January 2011 with the signing of the new Memorandum of Understanding between SCI and the Royal Government of Bhutan for the period – 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2015. The focuses of Save the Children in Bhutan are enhancing access to Adolescent development, youth advocacy, awareness and education, child protection and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCD). A recent yet critical area of intervention has been the advocacy and initiation for Disaster Risk Reduction and Response.

Save the Children conducted a three-day capacity-strengthening orientation for local CSO partners, reflecting our commitment to localisation, local leadership, and sustainable development.
Participants strengthened their knowledge and skills in:
🔹 Safeguarding and creating safe environments
🔹 Supply chain and procurement
🔹 Financial management and accountability
🔹 Fraud, bribery and corruption prevention
🔹 Internal controls and compliance
🔹 Partner reporting and responsible stewardship of resources
The orientation also encouraged peer learning, experience sharing and practical reflection on how partners can strengthen their own systems and performance.
Strong, accountable and resilient partner organisations are essential to achieving better outcomes and greater impact for children and communities. Save the Children remains committed to working alongside CSO partners to strengthen local capacity, ownership and leadership for sustainable change.

The 10-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Save the Children’s Inclusive Ready to Learn (IRTL) Package was conducted in Paro from 7th – 16th August 2026, bringing together district education officers and facilitators from Thimphu, Paro, Wangduephodrang, Chhukha, Samtse, Thimphu Thromde, Phuntsholing Thromde and members from BECEDA to strengthen inclusive ECCD practices.

Through practical activities, demonstrations, micro-teaching, role plays and reflection, participants strengthened their knowledge and skills in child development, inclusive emergent literacy and mathematics, and social-emotional learning. The Stronger Together sessions further equipped participants with practical approaches to engage caregivers and support children’s learning and development at home.
The training strengthened participants’ confidence and capacity to create more inclusive, responsive and supportive learning environments, particularly for children with disabilities.

Together, we are building a future where every child is valued, supported and empowered to learn, participate and thrive.

About the role:
The Project Officer will support the planning, budgeting and implementation of EU CSO Project activities, working closely with partners while ensuring programme quality, donor compliance and safeguarding standards. The role will also support operations, partnerships and humanitarian response activities, when required.

🎓 Eligibility:
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or a related field, with a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.

About the role

🎓 What we’re looking for

Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, International Development, Project Management or related field

On 5th August 2026, Save the Children Bhutan, together with the Zhemgang Dzongkhag Administration and the Office of Cabinet Affairs and Strategic Coordination (OCASC), came together for the virtual kickoff of Phase 2 of our project, “Improving Children’s Wellbeing through Child-Sensitive Social Protection” (CSSP)

Supported by Save the Children Japan, this new phase will pilot child-sensitive social protection interventions in Zhemgang, focusing on improving the environment for the healthy development and better nutrition of children aged 2 to 5, through nutritious meals, livelihood support for vulnerable families, and positive parenting support for caregivers.

We thank the Zhemgang Dzongkhag Administration and OCASC for their collaboration and shared commitment to this initiative. This kickoff marks an important step forward, and we look forward to working together to achieve the project’s intended outcomes.

10-Day Pilot Training for Creche Center Caregivers in Bhutan
A 10-day pilot training for 12 crèche centre caregivers, which began on 20 July in Paro, concluded today. The training was organized to strengthen crèche center caregivers’ knowledge and practical skills to provide safe, responsive, inclusive and developmentally appropriate care for children aged 0–3 years.
Through demonstrations, group work, hands-on activities and reflection, participants explored child development, responsive caregiving, play and early learning, health and safety, inclusion, child protection, daily routines, and engagement with families. The training also provided an important opportunity to pilot the draft Crèche Caregiver Training Package and gather feedback for its further improvement.
This activity is funded by the World Bank as a part of its “Invest in Childcare” initiative and the World Bank’s Human Capital Recovery & Resilience Program-for-Results (HCRRP). Save the Children Bhutan Office thanks the participating crèche center caregivers, Resource Persons from the education sector and the Paro College of Education, and the Ministry of Education and Skills Development for its commitment to improving the quality of care and early learning for Bhutan’s youngest children.
