A day-long program on “Sensitization on Geriatric Care & Services for Caregivers” was held on 26th November in Phuentsholing. Caregivers, Red Cross Youth volunteers, and senior citizens kindly took part in the session.
The program was graciously facilitated by Dr. Sonam Choki, Geriatric Physician from JDWNRH, as part of the ongoing Healthy Aging Project, a collaborative initiative of the Bhutan Red Cross Society and the Royal Society for Senior Citizens, supported by the Swiss Red Cross.
The session covered the following key areas:
• Understanding age-related physical, psychological, and social changes
• Common geriatric concerns such as dementia, depression, delirium, falls, malnutrition, polypharmacy, and frailty
• Practical caregiver interventions for major body systems
• Promoting dignity, respect, and compassion in caregiving
• Strengthening communication and decision-making support for older adults
• Caregiver self-care and recognizing early signs of burnout
RSSC would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Bhutan Red Cross Society for the continued partnership, and especially to the Swiss Red Cross for funding the Heatly Aging project.
RSSC also offer our sincere thanks to JDWNRH and Phuentsholing Hospital for their kind cooperation, and to Arura Academy of Health Science Medical Institute for assisting in mobilizing the Bhutan Red Cross Youth volunteers
