On 29th August 2026, the Sherubtse GNH Unit under Global and National Affairs Network (GNAN ) conducted an orientation program in preparation for our upcoming visits to the Draktsho Centre.

This program was not an interaction session with the students rather, it was organized to prepare our members with the necessary knowledge and understanding before beginning our regular visits. The main focus of the orientation was to learn about the do’s and don’ts when interacting with students with disabilities, including how to communicate respectfully, offer help appropriately, and avoid words or actions that may make someone feel uncomfortable or excluded. Members were reminded of the importance of treating every individual with dignity, patience, kindness, and equality.

The orientation was important because proper understanding and sensitivity are necessary when interacting with students with disabilities. As part of our future plans, the Sherubtse GNH Unit intends to visit the Draktsho Centre twice a month, where we hope to spend meaningful time with the students through educational, recreational, creative, and interactive activities.

One of the main purposes of these visits is to share and teach some of the knowledge and skills that we already know, while also creating opportunities for the students to learn and develop new skills. At the same time, we hope to learn from the students and understand their experiences, as we believe that everyone has something valuable to share. Through these regular visits, we also aim to promote inclusiveness, build meaningful friendships, develop compassion and understanding, and create a sense of belonging among the students.

This initiative also reflects the values of Gross National Happiness by encouraging compassion, caring, cooperation, social responsibility, and community harmony.

The Sherubtse Gross National Happiness (GNH) Unit under Global and National Affairs Network organised an orientation programme on 19th August 2026 to welcome its members and introduce them to the values, objectives, and future direction of the unit. The programme provided an opportunity for both new and existing members to come together, learn about the unit, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

The event commenced with the gathering of members, followed by the arrival of the Chief Guest, DSA. The programme was formally opened with a welcoming address from the Chief GNAN Coordinator Rinchen Wangdi, who introduced the purpose and significance of the orientation. The Chief Guest then addressed the members, highlighting the importance of volunteering, cooperation, responsibility, and active involvement in the club related initiatives.

A special part of the programme was the recognition of the GNAN Adventure winners. Their efforts and achievements were acknowledged through the presentation of certificates and prizes, motivating other members to take part actively in future programmes.

The orientation programme ended with refreshments and an encouraging message for all members to remain committed and involved in the activities of the GNH Unit.

A special note of gratitude goes to the GNH Centre for their continuous guidance, encouragement, and steadfast support in making all our programs possible. Your inspiration empowers us to create positive change and serve our community with purpose.

Promoting GNH Through Volunteerism

09/08/2026

The Sherubtse GNH Youth Club, under the Global and National Affairs Network (GNAN), conducted a volunteer service at Choekhortsi Shedra during the annual Yarney (Summer Retreat). The GNH unit volunteers assisted in preparing vegetables to support the monastic community during the retreat.

The initiative reflected the values of Gross National Happiness (GNH), particularly compassion, community vitality, cultural preservation, mindfulness, and selfless service. Through this simple act of volunteering, the students contributed to the well being of others while strengthening teamwork, social responsibility, and respect for Bhutanese spiritual traditions.

The activity reminded us that GNH is not only about individual happiness but also about promoting the well being and happiness of others through meaningful service.

The Sherubtse GNH Youth Club sincerely thanks all the volunteers for their time, dedication, and willingness to serve.
