On 13 April 2026, Bhutan Ecological Society (BES), in partnership with MicroEnergy Credits (MEC), conducted Local Stakeholder Consultation for the “Integrated Cooking & Space Heating Carbon Mitigation Program” in Thimphu and Sakteng Gewog (Trashigang), bringing together voices from both urban and remote communities.
The initiative aims to accelerate Bhutan’s transition to clean energy by promoting efficient electric induction and infrared cookstoves, along with electric space heating systems, replacing traditional biomass and LPG use. This shift will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve indoor air quality, and ease pressure on forest resources.
Developed under Bhutan’s Carbon Markets Framework (2025) and aligned with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, the program supports high-integrity climate action contributing to Bhutan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and sustainable development priorities.
The consultations—an essential requirement under Gold Standard and Core Carbon Principles (ICVCM-CCP)—ensured transparency, meaningful stakeholder engagement, and strong social and environmental safeguards. They also provided a platform to identify risks early, incorporate community feedback into project design, and promote inclusive, equitable benefit-sharing.
The consultation saw participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, civil society, private sector actors, financial institutions, and local leaders—reflecting a collective commitment to advancing clean, inclusive, and sustainable energy solutions in Bhutan.
