Mothers of children with disabilities set aside their careers, dreams and aspirations to support their child and, in many cases, become financially dependent and even vulnerable.
Recognising this problem, Phensem collaborated with The Department of Employment and Entrepreneurship (DoEE) under The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment (MoICE) to organize a 3-day bootcamp for these mothers from 8th to 8th-10th May in Thimphu.
Led by trainers from .bt , a company in Bhutan that specializes in business acceleration, the bootcamp saw mothers from the Phensem Parents Support Group, Bhutan from Thimphu, Samtse and Paro learn how to explore entrepreneurship as an avenue for financial freedom and, on International Mothers Day proudly presented their business ideas to the judges.
Ideas ranged from Adapted books to Mushroom farms to Weaving circles and each idea presented was more than just a business—they were businesses that envisioned creating a community of financially empowered mothers who would go on to create employment opportunities for their children in the future.
The Phensem family would like to thank the DoEE and UNDP Bhutan for supporting us and recognising our mothers as women capable of being not just successful entrepreneurs but changemakers in society.
