BAOWE successfully organized a one-day 'Food Handler Training' for members of our Women-Owned Open Market (WOOM) Self-Help Group located in Thimphu today.

This initiative was facilitated by the Bhutan Food and Drug Authority and supported by Pelden Enterprise, ensuring that our women entrepreneurs who sustain their livelihoods by selling home-made food in BAOWE’s designated areas remain compliant with national food safety standards.

We are proud to announce that all 23 attendees passed the certification exam conducted at the end of the training, and were awarded Food Handler Certificates valid for the next five years.

By equipping our members with renewed certification, BAOWE not only continue to uphold our commitment to empower women, but also support safe food practices.

Two of our Self-Help Groups (SHGs) - Women-Owned Open Market and Samcholing Tea - participated in the 1st Tea Festival, 3rd Watermelon Festival, and 5th Made In Bhutan Exhibition held at the Clock Tower Square from June 5-7, 2026.

Samcholing Tea SHG launched 4 new products - Golden Tea, Yellow Tea, White Tea and Flower Tea, marking a proud moment for community-driven initiative.

Organized by the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry and inaugurated by the Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the event was a celebration of local entrepreneurship.
